A great deal has been said about the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026. In today’s edition of the @DailyMonitor, I share my perspective through a climate finance lens.

Uganda’s climate ambitions rely heavily on external financing. As such, we ought to exercise a superlative degree of prudence to avoid constraining the avenues and partnerships that make climate action possible.

In this article, I explore potential implications for green investments, development cooperation, and Uganda’s climate future.

Today, we held our second strategic planning meeting with our co-conveners of the Citizens' Convention on Extractives and Energy, as preparations for the 9th CCE gather momentum.

The convention returns in October 2026 under the theme: Energy for People: Access, Affordability, Dignity and Inclusion. A theme that places citizens at the centre of Uganda's energy conversation and asks the harder questions about who the sector is truly serving.

Today's meeting focused on sharpening the roadmap, aligning partner contributions, and ensuring that by October, the convention speaks with one clear, citizen-led voice.

I am exceedingly delighted, and humbled in equal measure, to have joined 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 as an 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰: 𝐎𝐧-𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐎𝐏.

In this role, I will be supporting 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐡’𝐬 efforts to strengthen student and staff engagement, both online and on-campus, with 𝐔𝐍 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. This will be under the “On-campus and Online Engagement with COP” project, which seeks to convene a ‘𝐂𝐎𝐏 𝐂𝐚𝐟𝐞́’ event, ensure COP30 digital passes are utilized effectively, and to evaluate the reach and impact of these activities.

This development marks yet another milestone in my unwavering commitment to advancing 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞.💚🌍🙏🏾
