@morganauhistory I feel like as teachers we can teach our students what tragedy is. We don't necessarily have to get into exactly what happened, but we can make sure our students understand that something did take place. It's also our job to make sure our students have a safe space to talk to us.
@cmorrinauctee As teachers, we can make sure we have all cultures represented throughout our books and pictures in our classroom. We can also take the time to learn about our students cultures and make ourselves familiar with the different traditions!
"Students must see themselves in the texts, including their cultures, identities, interests, experiences, desires, and future selves." (page 146). How can we as teachers work to make sure all of our students are represented in our class? #auctee3100book21
@morganauhistory I feel like conflict in history is very important for students to learn. As a teacher we have to do our absolute best to stay neutral to the topic of discussion so that there is no bias thoughts. Students need to learn about our past and current mistakes without any sugarcoating.
@hannahp_au I think keeping the classroom as a happy, inviting place and allowing students to sit in different seats or around the room can keep students from feeling controlled. Making sure you as a teacher know the difference between effective class management and controlling your class.
"Criticality helps students read the world with a critical eye, refusing to accept unexamined information as factual or truth." (pg 122). How can we as teachers encourage not only our students but other teachers to view world issues with a critical eye? #auctee3100book21
"For educators, it is critically important to push back on standards and practices that are not aligned to what students need most." (pg 68). How can we make sure that what we are teaching in our classroom is relevant to what is going on in our society? #auctee3100book21
@cmorrinauctee I think that it is important to incorporate materials into our lessons that don't just portray a cookie cutter family. If we do this, then our classroom becomes a safe space for all students, and allows people to embrace each others differences.
@jadynowensau I think the only way to have equal opportunities is if we as teachers treat every student as equal people. We have to put in place equal opportunities and equal expectations for our students. We need to push our schools to allow for these equal opportunities.
"Using their minds and pens as a form of literary activism...instruction that is connected to their lives." p.(44). I often try to use my writing to get my thoughts on paper about what I am passionate about. How can we encourage our students to do the same? #auctee3100book21
