@CallieAntonCTEE Providing a variety of books that include children/families like all of our students is a great way to make sure they are all represented!
Gorski succinctly sums up this approach as “working with rather than on families in poverty” (p. 132) How can we as teachers take Gorski’s approach when dealing with families in poverty? https://t.co/50p7MGqk3J #auctee3100book21
@hannahp_au Setting clear expectations with routine is a great way to set your kids up for success! I also think giving students options when we can will form a respectful relationship between us and our students, naturally bringing better behavior.
“Students learn more, and more deeply, when we demonstrate that we believe in their abilities to do so” (p. 121). What are ways that we can acknowledge and encourage ALL kinds of abilities in our classroom? https://t.co/59dGnXaAj0 #auctee3100book21
@ReillyDavis13 We need to always have an understanding of why things are happening with our students in order to provide the best solution and support possible! Without education on our students’ past, we could unintentionally make the problem worse.
@andiehringer1 I don’t think it is fair. Of course there has to be firm lines that can’t be crossed, but we as educators should always have our students best interest at heart. Each child is different, & not giving them all an opportunity to explain or redeem themselves isn’t fair.
Charter schools are another ineffective response to the “achievement gap” & end up being “just as segregated as, or more segregated than public neighborhood school students” Do we think private schools do more harm than they do good? https://t.co/WnHy2gqlpt #auctee3100book21
@RebeccaFriday14 I think you are going to have students in your classroom that naturally fall in the shadows because of their personality! It is our job as a teacher to reach out to our shy, quiet kids and make sure we encourage and include them just as much as the loud leaders in the class!
“If you work hard, do well in school, and follow the rules, you can be anything you want to be” (Gorski). Wouldn’t this be a GREAT thing if it were true? What can we do as educators to push for change & provide equal opportunities to all of our students #auctee3100book21
