"Of course, simply putting people in groups does not ensure that cooperation will take place"(Kohn 188). How can we as teachers encourage our students to effectively and engagingly work together when placed in groups rather than ignoring or talking too much? #auctee3100book21
@hannahp_au I think this quote speaks to how we as teachers should be listening to our students and informally assessing them through observation and check-ins rather than using formal assessment exclusively so that we can best serve them.
@AnneDoxtader Primary sources likely more historically accurate because they tell the story through the lens of those who experienced it rather than through the all-too-popular lens of the white/European male.
@EscaleraLizzy I think it is important to educate new generations on the mistakes of generations past so that history does not repeat itself. The shame that we as Americans feel learning about slavery or that German children feel learning about the Holocaust help us see the evil of the past.
@SydneyEdge I had never thought about the staffing challenges of lower income schools. Perhaps these schools cannot pay employees as much as other schools which discourages people from wanting to work there.
"Tests are used not so much to see what students need help with but to compel them to do the work that has been assigned"(Kohn 149). How does this relate to the podcast and video we listened to this week about backwards design? https://t.co/xuhSToO5ZV #auctee3100book21
@tylerlitcircle I think this is such a good question! Students that feel empowered in their education and supported in their thoughts and endeavors are way more likely to produce quality creative work.
@andiehringer1 I do not think a zero tolerance policy is fair in most cases. Students' brains are not yet fully developed in their ability to think critically or make decisions. They need understanding and support from administrators, or at the very least a chance to explain their actions.
"Excellence pulls in one direction; encouraging employees to think about how well they are doing(and what they will earn as a result) pulls in another(Kohn 139). What might be a better way to motivate employees
(or students) other than incentive programs? #auctee3100book21
@randiiclaire_AU As we learned in our FOUN 3000 class, it is more common than not for Americans (even children) to harbor an implicit bias towards people of color. I think that a lot of these thoughts are learned and passed unintentionally from generation to generation & come out subconsciously.
@CallieAntonCTEE I think it is so important to let students write about things they are interested rather than pointless prompts. This way we can motivate them to practice their reading and writing skills in a way that is fun for them. Maybe asking about their favorites/hobbies/pets/family?
“To take what people want or need and offer it on a contingent basis in order to control how they act- this is where the trouble lies”(p. 4) Do you think that there can be other motives to rewards other than obtaining a certain behavior? #auctee3100book21 https://t.co/3oBaDOakuj
