@RebeccaFriday14 Educating yourself on characteristics of those with autism is a good first step in understanding someone diagnosed with autism. Providing support, organizing routines, creating schedules are very helpful in providing a safe space for students with autism.
@tylerlitcircle It will be challenging at first to develop effective teaching skills that allow me to adapt when needed. However, as an educator I would like to be a lifelong learner, rethinking the things that I have learned along with relearning any concepts that i may be unsure about.
“Deconstructing a stereotype and developing human relationships can reverse the almost reflexive responses of fear and distrust in the face of tragedy” (Cowhey 187). As educators, how can we model ways to learn about less familiar cultures and traditions? #auctee3100book21
@steed_perry Due to budget cuts, art programs are possibly soon to be cut in many places. This is because some people view core subjects like math, reading, etc. more important to do well in. However, art programs allow students a creative outlet and a way to express their emotions.
@carbrill1 As educators, we must take an active role to become life long learners and relearn the things that we have been taught about history. This will ensure that we are teaching truth instead of possibly false pieces of information that we have taken in over the years.
“If you do not create citizens who think critically about history and current events in the context of history, then you give tyranny a free hand.” Why is it important for educators to explore conflict in history rather than shy away from it? #auctee3100book21
@steed_perry Incorporating lessons about proper nutrition into the classroom can be helpful in promoting healthy eating. Additionally, there are educational books that can be read and used for discussion that focus on healthy ways to fuel your body.
“Learning through activism helps children develop a sense of social justice, a sense of fairness and equity that begins with personal and community experience and extends globally and historically”(Cowhey103) Have you experienced learning through activism? https://t.co/xItiM6NAUJ
@SydneyEdge Some parents coming from families that experience poverty may be working extra hours or have less time than wealthier parents. They may have bigger issues in their minds than their children’s education.
@carbrill1 It is important to realize that many people can quickly become “poor” due to unexpected events or occurrences. One effective way to help those in need is to volunteer at local food banks where you are able to help serve and interact with the less fortunate.
@cmorrinauctee Collaborating with parents and families of students is a great way to learn more about diverse families. Additionally, it is helpful to have effective discussions in class about family diversity. Teachers can incorporate book readings in class that can spark these conversations.
“Multicultural education is a process of comprehensive school reform. And basic education for all students” (Cowhey p. 19). What are ways that teachers can adopt Multicultural Education in classrooms? #auctee3100book21 https://t.co/bgTRcRIvcr
