@cmorrinauctee I believe that we can model this by introducing different cultures through classwork, food, activities, play, etc. Everything we do in the class can be tied into learning about different cultures and fostering a sense of connection and community between everyone.
@carbrill1 I don't know if it is possible to 100% prepare for a specific tragedy, but I think that if we teach our students from our hearts, then we will comfort them just by loving and being there for them. Teaching from the heart is so important for our students to feel safe in class.
#auctee3100book21 "21. That's the % of juvenile court detention cases that involve girls nationwide. This number, low when compared to the 79% of boys, is often used as an excuse to ignore or dismiss the experiences of girls in this system" (136). Why do you think this is?
@jjj002521798 Exposing students to autism is something that is vital because they will experience children with autism or other special needs in their classes and especially in the outside world. Some ways could be through talking about it, learning about it in lessons, etc.
@CallieAntonCTEE Viewing world issues with a critical eye is so important. We can just encourage our students to read and educate themselves on a topic before forming opinions. Informed opinions are the best ones. And with other teachers we can work to ensure that we are critically understanding.

What do you believe to be one (or more) of the root causes of child sex trafficking and how can education/school help children/girls involved in this?
"I did it because I hated myself. I did because I didn't love myself. I did because I never had anything. So when I was hustling, I would hustle hard to get what I need and want. to make myself look good and feel better. So I started selling my body" (107). #auctee3100book21
@steed_perry I believe that modeling the example of eating healthy is a great way to promote it to students. Also being open with discussion about healthy food options is a good tip. Another thing could be to provide some healthy snacks in your classroom for students to eat.
@hannahp_au I think intrinsically motivating our students is something so important because it teaches them to proud of themselves and the work they're doing. Instilling confidence in students is a major role that teachers play in students education.
#auctee3100book21 "When black girls are perceived to be lashing out against others and themselves, what's happening can't be understood without an illumination of what brought them to that place" (p. 85).
What is the importance of knowing your students past trauma?
@steed_perry Assumption is one of the worst things a teacher can do because it often leads to false information. Teachers need to be intentional with their relationships with students/families to fully understand and empathize with them. It is important to truly know people.
@CallieAntonCTEE I think we can our students to consistently write down their thoughts and feelings in a journal or by doing some type of writing. Students need to pick up a pen and paper to write often, it is so important for their learning.
"criminalization of Black girls is much more than a street phenomenon. It has extended into our schools, disrupting one of the most important protective factors in a girl's life: her education" (p. 3).
What causes black girls being criminalized in school? #auctee3100book21
