Lavrov is unhappy that President Trump, along with Ukraine and Europe, calls for an immediate ceasefire.

Russia is the only party that doesn't want a ceasefire and an end to the war. It's becoming very obvious, hence Russia is using this rhetoric.

Moscow was surprised by President Trump's change of position on ending the war in Ukraine, Lavrov said.

According to him, the US president has returned to positions that seemed "to have been long since exhausted, and which only reflect the hectic desire of Europeans and the Zelenskyy regime to get a pause in order to rearm the Kyiv structure."

At the 1945 Yalta and Potsdam conferences, Stalin, alongside Allied leaders, redrew Poland’s borders, shifting them westward.

Poland lost eastern territories to the Soviet Union (now parts of Ukraine and Belarus) and gained former German lands, like Silesia and Pomerania, as "compensation."

This was less a "gift" and more a geopolitical maneuver, with Poland having little say in the matter.

A very meaningful meeting with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney. I am grateful that this visit is taking place today, on such an important day for Ukrainians – Independence Day. This is highly symbolic, as Canada was among the first to recognize the restoration of Ukraine’s independence – to recognize our sovereign state.

Today, important documents and clear agreements have been signed. An Action plan for the implementation of the Agreement on security cooperation between our countries, an Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters signed at the ministerial level, and the Letter of Intent on drone production. We also discussed diplomacy, work within the Coalition of the Willing, sanctions efforts, energy cooperation, Canada’s potential assistance in Ukraine’s reconstruction and rehabilitation programs for our veterans, as well as our defense cooperation.

I am grateful for Canada’s readiness to join the PURL program, which allows for increased support for Ukraine through U.S. weapons procurement. This means an additional 500 million dollars – a very important contribution. Right now, drones are the number one priority in defense and tactical operations, as they help save lives on the battlefield. The funds allocated by Canada will be directed specifically toward drone production – we discussed this, and agreements have been reached.

I am grateful to @MarkJCarney and Canada for all the support – support that is absolutely sincere. Thank you.

The Russians are now trying to make their attacks more intense. We in Ukraine fully support the American proposal for an immediate ceasefire. We’ve already tried many different formats – ways to stop the fighting, to stop the killing. We have spoken and offered Russia silence in the skies, an end to missile and drone strikes against civilian infrastructure in general, and specifically, a halt to attacks on the energy sector.

All of this was violated by Russia. And in a very cynical way. Not a single day has gone by without their terror against civilians. Not a single day have they given us real, complete silence on the frontline. And the root cause of this war is simply Russia’s desire to control the lives of its neighbors, to subjugate them, to kill them. If not for that, there would be no war.

It is extremely important that Moscow is beginning to feel the pressure of the world, the pressure from the United States, the threat of tougher sanctions for continuing the war.

Canada condemns the Israeli government’s failure to prevent the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

Israel’s control of aid distribution must be replaced by comprehensive provision of humanitarian assistance led by international organizations. Many of these are holding significant Canadian-funded aid which has been blocked from delivery to starving civilians. This denial of humanitarian aid is a violation of international law.

Canada calls on all sides to negotiate an immediate ceasefire in good faith. We reiterate our calls for Hamas to immediately release all the hostages, and for the Israeli government to respect the territorial integrity of the West Bank and Gaza.

Canada supports a two-state solution which guarantees peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians. Canada will work intensively in all fora to further that end, including through the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the UN High-Level Conference on a Two-State Solution in New York next week.
