Another superb announcement from @thirdwindow who have almost single handedly been shining a light on this forgotten era of Japanese cinema. Bring us even more! https://t.co/MAr9B26Qoa
@thirdwindow Coming back to this a few years down the line but I see that they've all had 2K or 4K restorations since, just as a head's up https://t.co/kjC7aX1hCM
@thirdwindow Any chance of you releasing any Kohei Oguri films? I've just been watching Taste of Tea which strikes me as being heavily influenced by his work. I'd love Muddy River, The Buried Forest and Sleeping Man in particular.
@thirdwindow@darkofsky Hopefully God Speed You will happen one day but this is fantastic news, I've been hoping that Yanagimachi's films would get a release.
@realJackEason It's listed as being 1 hour 54 mins - that's definitely longer than the UK theatrical version out on DVD from the BFI and would tally with the bootleg I have with the infamous RoC scene which runs at 113mins39secs
Incredible news that @SecondRunDVD will be releasing a new restoration of Mohsen Makhmalbaf's A Moment of Innocence, one of the great masterworks of Iranian cinema.
@DannyDrinksWine You are confusing preservation with distribution, which is an entirely different, and concerning, issue. I don't know any archives that would consider DVDs as preservation elements, and I don't know any archivists who wouldn't want their work more widely seen.
@thirdwindow Yeah, that was one of my points - that his earlier film March Comes in Like a Lion, which has been restored, would be more feasible here. Not sure if you like that one?
Not entirely sure why this seems to have gone viral but would love to see this film. However, think the energy of 16k likes might be better channeled into suggesting Yazaki's shorter, more easily releasable films like March Comes in Like a Lion, which also has a restoration
this film has not been released in any format. the only way to see it is by catching a screening in japan, making it one of the rarest films of all time.
Some additional context for two of NEON’s films:
