Some of y’all may disagree but I’m all in on AD being apart of this team. You can see the ways that having Kyrie has helped develop Brandon Williams and Ryan Nembhard I can see it their games already and having AD is the equivalent for Cooper and it’s starting to show too
Anthony Davis on Cooper Flagg’s recent play:
“He’s playing free…He’s gonna draw a lot of attention because who he is, and he has a target on his back and they’re gonna put the toughest wing defender on him…He’s making big plays. I got onto him tonight about rebounding, he gave up a couple of offensive rebounds and he only had five rebounds and he looked at me and said ‘well you only got five too.’ There was no excuse that I could give him but he wants to be held accountable, he wants to be great…”

You can hate me for saying this and that’s fine. But after being at the AAC today. The atmosphere was fucking electric. Great vibes for the new guys and on top of that as much as i hated the trade. Nico asked for defense and he fucking got it. We saw it big time today against a good rockets team!!! Yes i hate Luka is gone but im sorry im in with these guys and i know damn well they want YOU FANS to stand with them so let’s fucking go!!! Hate Nico idc. But I’m fucking standing with this team. Call me whatever the fuck you want. But the guys who stepped on that court today gave everything and they want to
Fucking win!! I saw it. I felt it and i believe it!!!
Alright, here we go. My attempt at some sort of closure.
Like many of us, I woke up yesterday morning shocked, upset, frustrated, etc.
I have been a dedicated, die - hard Mavs fan since I was conscious of the NBA. My first Mavs jersey was a Jason Kidd jersey bought at Reunion Arena.
I was fortunate enough to get to watch Dirk’s entire career. Even in the dark days, post 2011, I was still watching, still going to games. Players came and went, but Dirk was our guy and we continued to try and build around him to win.
Then came Luka. The fact as a Mavs fan we got to transition from one legend to a legend in the making, without any down time, was incredible. During the 18’-19’ season, I went to as many games as I could, sometimes in the very last row of the AAC, as I had a feeling it was Dirk’s last year, and I wanted to soak it all in before it was gone.
With Luka, the Mavs had a superstar that wanted to be here in Dallas. The accolades and accomplishments in his first 6 seasons were mind blowing. Free agents, such as Kyrie and Klay came to the Mavs to play with Luka. These future HOF’s wanting to come to Dallas was something new and exciting.
What happened with the Luka trade was, to me, the darkest day in Dallas sports history in my time so far on earth. Giving up on a 25 year old superstar is head scratching to say the least. Not to mention the way it went down, in which nobody had prior knowledge of the pending deal. The franchise always seemed like a family atmosphere, but those days are over. The Mavs were always the “fun” team in the DFW sports landscape, but now I have no idea what their identity is.
This trade has left me, as well as others, in a position I’ve never been in. I am a huge Luka fan, and a huge Mavs fan. But to say I’m not ticked off with the franchise would be a lie. I feel an emptiness I’ve never felt. This is no shade to our current roster, as I am still a fan of our current squad, and this trade is not any kind of reflection on them. Also no shade to many in the organization, who I’ve gotten to know over the years and have been nothing but nice and professional, and I feel for them as their job will be harder going forward.
Mavs management gave up on Luka, a superstar who WANTED TO BE HERE, but I’m not going to give up on 77. I’ve invested a lot of time into this page, and it’s has been a fun hobby over the years.
I have had the luxury of being “on the scene” and getting to do this while LD has been playing in my backyard, but that will no longer be the case.
So going forward, I will still cover Luka. It will be foreign to me to invest time into another team. The Mavs are in my blood, and I don’t foresee myself ever wearing purple and gold, but the show will go on.
I will still be watching the Mavs, and going to occasional games (I will be there Saturday), but things will never, ever, be the same. I felt like a piece of me died a bit yesterday.
Thank you all for your support over the years, and if you too are still a Luka fan, I invite you to come on this new journey via this page.
Thanks as always for your time.
