Trump is now underwater in 28 states, according to @MorningConsult latest 50-state approval data, comfortably his worst showing of 2025 so far but slightly superior to his standing at the same point in 2017, when he was underwater in 29 states.

Just 37% of Americans see the country headed in the right direction this month, per @MorningConsult data, down from an avg of 43% during the 2nd Trump presidency.
That includes 69% of Republicans, down from 77% in June.
Some of my colleagues at Morning Consult recently reran their “state of workers” survey and the change in unemployed adults saying the job market is “bad” versus “good” is striking: in October the net difference was -41 pp, in February it was -19
Since last year, voters — regardless of partisanship — have become more likely to favor free-trade deals over tariffs, @MorningConsult surveys show.

As @eyokley wrote in this morning's @MorningConsult Politics newsletter, it's hard to argue that the shutdown was hurting Ds more in the polls than it was hurting Rs.
The @MorningConsult survey we conducted over the weekend was the worst of the year for the GOP.
1. -10 net approval rating for Trump (lowest so far)
2. -12 net fav rating for Rs in Congress (lowest so far)
3. D+5 on generic ballot (highest so far)

Net favs for Republicans in Congress dipped to -10 over the weekend, the lowest we @MorningConsult have measured in 2025.
Looks like a uniquely bad finding for them given that Trump's net approval rating of -5 was unchanged and right around his second-term average.
From today's @MorningConsult Politics email c/o @eyokley: Most Americans think most presidents in past 50 years have respected the rule of law. Less than half say the same is true of Trump.
Since 2021, the share of Republicans who say they find nine legacy media outlets at least somewhat credible has increased from 36% to 50%, narrowing the partisan gap in perceptions of news credibility to its smallest since 2016.
🚨 Inflation is up to 3% for the first time since January according to @MorningConsult's inflation nowcast.
