Again, I say this with love to my fellow Latter-day Saints: the sooner you give up trying to convince the religious right to validate your faith, the sooner you'll know peace. Are we real Christians? Only one opinion matters—and it's not Pete Hegseth's.
“One reason people rush so quickly to the vulgar satisfactions of judgment, and love to revel in their righteous outrage, is that it spares them from the impotent pain of empathy, and the harder, messier work of understanding.”

@EricCMeadows As an (almost) lifelong Utahn, I 100% agree with this. I love Utah, it’s a great place to live. But I served stateside (Washington) and have seen this all happen. Living in Utah is great. But the kingdom needs to built everywhere.
On my mission, there was a burned CD that someone (maybe me?) titled "Hollandpalooza"—a compilation of talks Elder Holland had given when he was president of BYU. The CD was a coveted possession, and it circulated throughout the Texas Dallas Mission in 2007-2008.
For young men and women earnestly experimenting with Christian discipleship, the talks were perfect—inspiring, challenging, erudite, and, of course, beautifully written and delivered. They shaped my spiritual worldview at a pivotal moment in my life, and I continued to learn from him for the next 20 years. I'm grateful for the life he lived and the wisdom he shared.
@mckaycoppins This is perfectly said and exactly captures my experience with those same BYU talks when I was a missionary. It was a window into adult discipleship and so shaped my approach to church membership. Devastated that he’s gone.
Getting blown out in the Conference Championship matters for a Big 12 team like BYU, but doesn’t matter for an SEC like Alabama who had more losses and a bad loss to a 5-7 team? Unbelievable SEC bias.
Watching the AAC game right now and the ESPN announcers just showed the logos for Miami, bama, & ND and literally said “Now that BYU is out of the way it’s a 3 way battle between these teams.” I'm not a consipracy guy but this is so blatant it's not even a conspiracy. Such a joke
