I do not know whether the world will pay any attention to what I am about to say in this post, but what I witnessed yesterday confirmed to me that we are facing a major humanitarian, health, and environmental catastrophe in the days ahead.

Yesterday, I was on my way to the south of Gaza City along the coastal road when I was shocked by what I saw. Untreated sewage and wastewater are being discharged directly into the sea after the destruction of the sewage network and infrastructure during the war.

An estimated 80,000 cubic meters of wastewater are being dumped into the sea every day. These are terrifying numbers in a city already struggling amid the collapse of essential services.

The most alarming part was seeing thousands of displacement tents located near these streams of polluted water. Entire families, children, women, and elderly people are forced to live surrounded by contamination.

Yesterday, I realized that this city has suffered a complete collapse. Skin diseases are spreading at an alarming rate, infections are becoming more common every day, and the sea near these sewage outlets is no longer safe for swimming, fishing, or even approaching.

We are heading toward even darker days if this situation continues. More than two million people cannot be left to live between the rubble, sewage, and the constant threat of disease. What is happening here is a real humanitarian disaster that continues to worsen every day before the eyes of the world.

For those who believe russia’s vast size is somehow natural — just look at this map.

It screams continual colonization and the destruction of entire ethnic groups. Today, over 65 languages in russia are endangered, and hundreds more have already disappeared. And the process was even more brutal than in the Americas, where over 90% of Indigenous people were wiped out by Eurasian diseases. In russia’s case, the Moskovians had to kill manually — with steel — because unlike in the Americas, the local populations had immunity to those diseases.

Most of Ukraine fell under their occupation only in the 1800s. Before 1600, they controlled only a small part of it. So if someone tells you that “Ukraine is historically russian,” show them this map. It’s not. Just like Finland, Poland, and many other countries — Ukraine was never inherently russian. It was simply conquered, like the rest.

This empire stops expanding only when it’s stopped by force. Not by negotiations, kind words, or “understanding” the Kremlin’s grievances. They wage war simply because they can — not because they were “provoked” by NATO, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, or whatever monster they imagine under their beds. That’s been their nature for over six centuries. And they won’t change.

Com pot augmentar tant la població si no es construeix? Com és que immigrants amb menor salari poden permetre's viure a Barcelona i voltants mentre els joves autòctons abandonen la ciutat per no poder accedir a l'habitatge? La resposta és: per l'amuntegament. Càritas va estimar que unes 400mil persones viuen en infrahabitatge a l'àrea metropolitana de Barcelona. La meva estimació (estricta) amb dades de l'Enquesta de Condicions de Vida (2025) és d'unes 331mil. Això és el que jo anomeno "dúmping habitacional": competició a la baixa en les condicions habitacionals per poder tenir més disponibilitat a pagar. Això repercuteix en una alça de preus que beneficia a alguns i perjudica, molt, a uns altres. De més a menys beneficiats:
1. Propietaris que poden augmentar enormement la rendibilitat encabint diferents unitats de convivència en un sol pis. Normalment autòctons.
2. Llogaters que sublloguen habitacions (o menjadors!). Normalment immigrants, amb compatriotes seus arribats a posteriori.
3. Els immigrants que s'amunteguen. Jo els considero perjudicats, en tant que viuen en condicions d'infrahabitatge que no hauríem de permetre (posem estàndards de qualitat a tot, i no ho hem de fer amb un bé tan essencial com l'habitatge?). Potser algú considerarà que ells estan millor vivint en aquestes pèssimes condicions que al seu país... discutible.
4. Els més perjudicats són els joves autòctons que han de fugir de la ciutat o fer un esforç financer enorme per poder pagar un lloguer que se'ls menja els estalvis.

Com veieu, Catalunya, més que un país acollidor, s'ha convertit en un país abocador. És hora d'elevar els estàndards, salari mínim i condicions habitacionals: aturem la competició a la baixa.
