"I was traumatized by what I was seeing," Macias told Newsweek. "They don't communicate with their names. They communicate with their numbers, their student ID numbers."

@PplsCityCouncil@FilmThePoliceLA@SheilaKuehl Max Huntsman referenced in this letter openly stated he fears his life. Testifying @ the COC for @canAVcontract I strongly stated that he could imagine the terror in the hearts of community members, mostly BIPOC folks who have been targets of state violence for speaking up.
The statistics say everything we need to know: Black students made up 16.7% of the student population in the district, yet they received over half of all law enforcement contacts.
Unacceptable.
“That kind of person shouldn’t be responsible for the safety of high school children — that's the kind of person children need to be protected from."

✨New pub AND it’s open access✨
Centering the voices of Black adolescent girls, we explored Black girls’ identity development as well as how their development is shaped by their home and school environments.
This is what community care looks like:
🌼450+ participants joined us at the park
🌼We gave out 1100+ books for free
🌼270 folks participated in the VIP luau breakfast
LASD clearly doesn’t provide training on much of anything whether it be about LGBTQ folks or students. Cap Lecrivain similarly struggled when directly asked about school resource deputies in AV and provided COC with a laughable document outlining such policies @canAVcontract
Cancel the Contract believes that holistically investing in our youth's education and creating a community that provides meaningful services of joy and healing is just as important as stopping law enforcement violence and racism.

The targeted attacks on vulnerable communities only pushes our students into the broken criminal justice system before they’ve had a chance to build a brighter future.
Did you know that Black students received 107 referrals to school administrators for disciplinary action but only 6 referrals to counselors at AVUHSD?
We believe children deserve #CareNotCops
On California school campuses, school resource officers can detain and question students as long as they do not do so arbitrarily or to harass them.
This is completely backwards -- our students deserve stronger 4th amendment protections, not weaker.
Students deserve to know their rights when confronted with armed law enforcement at schools.
Thank you to our friends at the @ACLU for this important lesson
