@RedstnPhoenx@RaeLikesDnD @SiobhanMoore90 @AITA_online I figured the mother is insisting that each sample have the submitter's name on it, and OP didn't think that was odd anymore than he thinks having to have desserts authorized was odd.
@KellyAMangan @Andrealadealado@AITA_online The chocolate I can't eat due to sensitivities. I'd try the pudding, but I tend to have texture issues with most bread puddings.
The other two -gimme. Those are yummy.
@birchbone@AITA_online When my maternal grandma was alive, she had a menu. But she made everything except some desserts, so it kept things organized. (The only complaint I ever had was she tended to make the turkey breast a bit dry. Bring on the gravy!)
@RobertL_68@JustAnnieLeigh@AITA_online I was thinking they should do that, if favored kid could be trusted not to tattle. It's a test that's been done, from resumes to wine samples. A lot of people reject based on the label, not the quality.
@sloggett_julie @Gluonsrule @mr_mxyplyzyk@AITA_online It's a sugar cookie. You take sugar and cinnamon, mix them together, roll the sugar cookies in the mix, then bake.
This reminds me of the dessert called spotted dick in the UK. 😛
@sound_within@AITA_online I think I saw ONE in r/bridezilla (been going through the backstories). In that one, the bride was being just ridiculous. The story came from the bride's sister, who swore the MIL was a reasonable person.
@AITA_online This kind of thing is never about just the cookies/rejection. There's a solid chance the mother has other questionable behaviors toward the OP's wife and the other people she rejects. The cookies just give a solid example to point to.
@sound_within@ZACKK1NN1E@AlsikkanTV@AITA_online I have an intersection of food sensitivities, texture, and being picky about certain foods.
My adult kid cycles through periods where they prefer a pescatarian diet.
Sometimes that means one of us is making two separate meals, and sometimes we cook for ourselves. Is life.
@ZACKK1NN1E@AlsikkanTV@AITA_online Eh, my kid experimented with that once. The biggest issues are the flavor was pretty strong and Parmesan doesn't really melt well.
Muenster grilled cheese is delicious.
@trio1111@sound_within@kayinprogress@AITA_online This sounds like the kind of personality that tends to follow the letter of the rules and not really dig into the spirit. If they don't learn to loosen up, such tight rule-following can be detrimental.
@snoringbaby@MantiMeow@le_shallot@AITA_online That's potato juice, not soup. Depending on whether going for savory or spicy, I'd add rosemary, thyme, and chives, or cumin, chili powder and coriander.
@CinemaGoddess@ectogammat@AITA_online When I taught them to cook, I explained to my kids that most of the time, you're adding salt to boost flavor, not overwhelm it. And 1/4 tsp of salt in cookie dough for 24 cookies adds a nice boost.
(They're both better cooks than me now.) 😆
@AITA_online YTA. My younger-adult kid will follow the recipe exactly the first time, then make delicious changes afterwards.
To my taste buds, most recipes do not have enough salt, and I prefer adding spice and/or herbs, according to the ingredients in the dish.
@ZuzuExiste@vee_naaaaaaasty@AlsikkanTV@AITA_online Here's a "fun" one: Preventing the partner from going to work when they won't do what the abusive partner says is a lesser-known but recognized form of mental/psychological and financial abuse.
