If we don’t encourage our own homegrown ideas with cult-like patronage, our advocacies on social media are nothing but noise making.

If we’re urging our frontline entrepreneurs to transition from importation to production, we must also task ourselves to transition from communication to contribution.

Support for homegrown ideas is what made Taiwan, Korea and China what they are today and the result wouldn’t be any different if we acted accordingly.

Remember when we laughed at and denigrated Taiwanese products (“Ha ha ha! That one na Taiwan!”)? Remember? Are we still laughing today? We went from there to “Nna leave that thing, na China.” Today Chinese products are in our faces, everywhere we turn, competing with and replacing renowned global brands.

This is the season for “Aba-Made” products. So all the stigma, scornful laughter and criticism over design aesthetics, durability and functionality are expected and must be welcomed, but the patronage must be rock solid, from inside-out. In due course, no one will tell the “scornful laughers” to transition to sensible buyers.
