तेरह साल की पद्मजा (मेरी पोती) आठवीं कक्षा में प्रयागराज में पढ़ती है। उसने अपनी और अपने गांव के दोस्तों की शिक्षा को ले कर अपनी व्यग्रता बयान करते ब्लॉग लिखा है - "हम बच्चों की आवाज़"

अपनी शिक्षा को ले कर उसका भय है कि "एक छात्रा होने के नाते मैं सोचती हूँ कि जब आज इतने बच्चे अपनी कॉपियों की जाँच और अंक देने की प्रक्रिया पर सवाल उठा रहे हैं, तो जब मैं बारहवीं तक पहुँचूँगी तब हालात कैसे होंगे? क्या मेरी मेहनत का सही मूल्यांकन होगा? क्या हर बच्चे को उसकी योग्यता के अनुसार अवसर मिलेगा? ये सवाल मेरे मन में बार-बार उठते हैं।"

उसे यह भी लगता है कि उसके गांव के मित्र बच्चे, जिनको अच्छे स्तर की शिक्षा नहीं मिलती और जिन्हें "पढ़ाई के साथ-साथ घर की जिम्मेदारियाँ भी उठानी पड़ती हैं। खाना बनाना, छोटे भाई बहनों को देखना और गाय-बकरियां चराना जैसे काम।

सर्दियों के दिनों में उनको दो घंटे पत्तियां और टहनियां भी बीननी होती हैं। ठंड से बचने के लिये वे अलाव जलाने के काम आती हैं।"
