In the small moments of life, Jesus is delivering every redemptive promise he has made to you. In these unremarkable moments, he is working to rescue you from you and transform you into his likeness.
Call me old-fashioned, but if church leaders keep hearing from their members that the sound system is too loud, I firmly believe that putting baskets of foam earplugs by the doors is the wrong response.
To all you commie freaks for whom I've become such a headache...this is why I do this. This is my parents coming home to see everything they'd lost because of your stupid commie leaders.
Am I fucking up your little campaigns? Shouldn't have killed John Wick's dog.
I had a good life, raising my boys, feeding hummingbirds. You stupid communists defunded our fire department, never maintained the brush on your government property, and you gave $750K raises to the morons who drained our reservoirs during fire season.
Fuck. All. Of. You.
I will never stop until every last communist is expelled from polite society.
“After all, if the gospel of Christ preached from his Word—his incarnation, perfect life, redeeming death, glorious resurrection, ascension, exaltation at the right hand of the Majesty on high, and his return to judge the living and the dead—does not hold our interest, then something is quite wrong with either the preacher or the hearer. If the gospel made visible in the signs and seals that God has given his church—water baptism as well as the bread and wine wherein by faith we receive the body and blood of Christ—does not grab our attention, then our priorities are off. If singing and praying God’s Word together with the rest of the saints does not produce any emotion in us whatsoever, then we are likely not participating in it with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength in Spirit and in truth. Indeed, these means that God has granted his church for communicating Christ and his benefits to his elect—the Word, sacraments, and prayer—are not only enough for our enjoyment, but they are enough for our salvation. This should give both the congregation and minister confidence in the sufficiency of God’s Word for the worship of him.”

A regimen of listening to Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas could be an antidote to the decline in attention spans. They were his workshop for musical ideas - and they got more complex over time. As you work through them, they keep requiring a little more of you. And listening to this kind of music blocks everything else out - and is really enjoyable. Maybe it would spill out and generate the ability to concentrate more broadly.
Here is just the exposition from Beethoven’s first sonata with Richter - one minute of your time. You get the two themes that make up the movement, which in total is about 5 minutes. The rest of the movement develops and repeats what you hear in this. The entire sonata is only 20 minutes long - with a lot of variety in key and tempo.
Repurpose half of the entire public education budget and use it to build Age of Sail tall ship replicas, on which every American boy will be educated to be the kind of man who conquered the planet and the stars
Instead of all the Jesus movies, they should make a super suspenseful TV series about Early Christians, with all the hiding, secret gatherings, persecution, counterculture, fish signs, samizdat scriptures, show trials, existential level theology debates, dumb evil myopic emperors, genius letters, upside down crucifixions, lions eating virgins in arenas, etc. -- and it would be super relevant for how culture evades, evolves, spreads and transforms today.
