The deformation band will setup up around 150 miles away from the low center. A paper written by Novak et al. (2004) found this about 250 km (150 mi) from the center of the low. This is close to NYC, NJ and SE New England depending on storm track.

850mb low and thermals are the primary elements to track.
Look at that tight gradient already set up along the Mid Atlantic coast. Significant. Heavy precipitation rate support. Overpowering of modest surface thermals will be instantaneous. Strong dynamic cooling.
