Rebuilding my playlist of #Western movies/series for simpler formatting. The list is over 170 items long. I'll post here as I watch each of them. The intent is to watch them as they are chronologically set.
Chrétien: When you look at the polls, Canadians have never been more united. Thank you to Donald Trump for that. I should propose him for the Order of Canada, but I cannot succeed. Do you know why?
Rosie: He's not Canadian?
Chrétien: Because we don't give it to a person who has a criminal record.
This the quintessential story of how sports reflects the state of the world. Thousands of fans have waited for Game 3 their whole lives and now they’re priced out of entering the game and can’t even celebrate outside because one billionaire gets to attend the game for free.
This is ridiculous. Part of the guarantees that all FIFA World Cup hosts have to sign is the free movement of all participating teams and officials through the hosting counties. I know this because it was part of the guarantees the Indian government had to sign before hosting the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2017.
This sounds like a last minute compromise where the US could not outright refuse Iran, but still needed to save face and make it as difficult as possible for them.
That is an unfair disadvantage for Iran and should be condemned by all football lovers.
We are now in a weird era where a guy gets publicly shamed for running his sprinklers on a Tuesday, while a data center the size of a Costco quietly drains a reservoir so AI can generate a picture of your cat as a medieval knight. And the data center gets a tax incentive for it.
Because a vast silent majority is seeing it at work and finding it a better alternative than watching loved ones choke on their own saliva or hyperventilate to death for a couple weeks.
This Nicolas Cage interview is amazing. Nic was asked about that crazy voice he does in Gunslingers and his response is not something I could have ever guessed.
@TheRealJonbass I think you have to choose between him and Odobert. There’s simply not enough playing time to develop them all. Especially if Moore will be back in the squad next year (I think that he should be.)
You are seeing in real time why Trump companies went bankrupt so many times. Set aside your politics. This guy is incapable of making a deal or meaningful decision and it follows the same cycle. Big flashy announcement (Epic Fury). Adversity hits (Hormuz closed). Defraud stakeholders (promise two week solution). Freeze up (endless two week cycle loop). Compound the problem (resource depletion). Final chance to save face rejected (what you’re seeing now). Bankruptcy strikes and blame others during chaos. Rinse repeat.
This has a clinical name. Revenge bedtime procrastination. And the ADHD version runs on a completely different mechanism than the neurotypical one.
A neurotypical person stays up late because they want more leisure time. The ADHD brain stays up because it spent every drop of dopamine it had on executive function during the day. Sitting in meetings, managing transitions, filtering impulses, remembering the thing you were supposed to remember. That burns through dopamine the way sprinting burns through glycogen. By 10pm the tank is empty.
But here's where it gets counterintuitive. The exhaustion is physical. The dopamine deficit is neurological. Those are two separate systems. Your muscles want sleep. Your prefrontal cortex is starving for the stimulation it was denied all day because it spent 14 hours on task-switching and impulse control instead of anything that actually felt rewarding.
The phone at midnight is the brain trying to collect what it's owed. Low-effort, high-stimulation content. Scrolling, short videos, rabbit holes. The exact profile of activity that delivers dopamine without requiring the executive function you already depleted.
The sleep researchers call this a "self-regulation failure." It's closer to a debt collection. You borrowed against your own reward system to function all day. The bill comes due at midnight. And the brain will not let you sleep until it gets paid.
Reporter: The DOJ has this new fund — $1.7 billion. Why should taxpayers pay for the January 6ers?
Trump: Because in my world, loyalty outranks law. They broke the rules for me, so you pay the bill for them. That’s the transaction.
This is exactly what "trust the science" looks like. Scientists updated the worst-case scenario because real-world emissions are tracking below RCP8.5's 2010-era assumptions of runaway coal expansion, primarily because wind and solar got cheap and climate policy started bending the curve. The new CMIP7 HIGH scenario published in Geoscientific Model Development still projects roughly 3°C of warming by 2100, twice the Paris target and a temperature Earth has not seen in roughly 3 million years.
The position being celebrated here amounts to: the climate policies worked well enough to retire the worst-case scenario, therefore we should kill the climate policies. That is hearing the smoke alarm shut off and concluding the fire department was a hoax.
So I’ve lived in Hillsboro, Oregon for 10 years. Drove around today and tonight and shot this myself. This is what the “Data Center Plains” looks like.👇
My town sits at the end of 6 transpacific sea cables connecting the US to Asia. That’s why 30+ data centers landed here.
They’re everywhere. Spread across the entire north and west end of the city. Road after road. Building after building. Miles of it.
And they keep building. Pushing further west every year into farmland that’s been here for generations. Buying up land, Giving mass amounts of money to home owners to move, Tearing down homes. Tearing down historic sites.
$7.2 billion in exempted property taxes. Some of these finished buildings are literally sitting completely dark…
PGE told them no power for 3-5 years. They still built them anyway.
A power plant is now going up right next to the data centers because they maxed the local grid.
There are families still living next to construction zones. Old farmhouses directly across the street from data center walls. Nobody asked the people who already lived here. These are the families who refused to leave, so they said we are just gonna put them up next to your houses anyway.
A pioneer homestead from 1865, 190 years of continuous farming is about to be gone, NTT Global Data Centers got that land tax-free until 2051. Signed in a single day at City Hall.
Intel, the employer that actually brought thousands of real jobs here is laying off locals at the same time.
This sound runs 24 hours a day. 7 days a week.
My electricity bill went from $80 to $150. Water rates are set to increase 105% over 5 years, critics say to fund data center infrastructure, not residents.
Data centers aren’t a joke. Just wanted to share my first hand experience with them. #datacenters
