After teaching in public schools for 10 years I was baffled when I started to get to know homeschooling families.

Many of them only do a couple hours of “school” a day, the rest of the time the kids are playing in tree forts, digging holes, helping out around the house, learning to hunt, playing with musical instruments, reading whatever they want to read. The most successful families simply have a culture of reading and learning that permeates the household.

And Homeschooled students average score 15 to 30 percentile points above national norms across all standardized tests.

This lit review focuses on Methylphenidate based drugs (stimulants), such as Ritalin. It would be interesting to see a lit review on non-stimulant ADHD meds such as Adderall. I’m a counselor who works with teens in a school setting and at least in my experience there is a huge difference between a teen on ADHD medication and not, in terms of focus and impulsivity. I’m also a bit suspicious of this lit review as it only highlights 10 studies, three of which were noted as having bias.
