Japanese researchers have reported a remarkable development in regenerative medicine after a patient with a spinal cord injury regained the ability to stand independently following experimental stem cell treatment. The early results offer new hope for people living with paralysis, although scientists emphasize that the treatment remains experimental.

Researchers at Keio University used induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells, which can be transformed into specialized cells. They developed neural precursor cells and transplanted them into damaged spinal cord tissue, hoping to support nerve repair and restore communication between the brain and body. In the small early-stage trial involving 4 patients, one participant reportedly regained the ability to stand independently, while another showed improvements in movement.

The findings are encouraging because severe spinal cord injuries often cause permanent loss of movement and sensation. However, the treatment has not been proven to reverse paralysis consistently, and the reported recovery does not establish that patients can walk unaided. Larger clinical trials are necessary to evaluate long-term safety, effectiveness, and which patients could benefit.

Description of sighting: (From Facebook) I have been trying to get a photo of these things the last few nights.

The longest lens I have is 200mm and by me they’re just really high, so the best I could get. This was flying low, not going higher in elevation (just gliding) and in a better lit area over a park so I was able to take somewhat of a better photo.

It’s a bit blurry bc I did have to run some noise software to remove some of the artifacts. No windows and no tail. I know some will still think this is a plane. And maybe you are right since I am no plane expert. *edited to add video bc the photos are even blurrier uploaded here.
