Today Louis from Hereford along his mum and dad visited the Ulster Tower.
The site is closed on Mondays but Austin arranged to take the family on a special tour of Thiepval Wood as Louis doesn’t like crowds but he wanted to visit the trenches.

They are a consideration of the antecedents to the murder or murders, including if, and how, the victim/s and/or perpetrator engaged with relevant agencies and services. Maybe there was no engagement with services at all, and that’s also something important to explore. 3/3
These reviews are about learning from the circumstances of domestic and family murders to identify how the domestic and family violence system can change for the ultimate purpose of preventing such deaths in the future.2/3
A challenge for the FDHR study was that there is no international best practice model for Domestic Homicide Reviews. But the opportunity for Ireland is to take the wealth of lessons learned worldwide & implement a robust & effective domestic and family violence review process.1/3
We had other invaluable contributors (cited) but getting access to data from the Office of the State Pathologist showcased the powerful potential of having access to a national database. 2/2
When we started the Familicide and Domestic Homicide Reviews study there was no data on family violence deaths- so we built our own database using publicly available information. We couldn’t have even considered starting this without Women’s Aid Femicide Watch reports. 1/2
