Remembering William on his 65th birthday RIP. The #Bessboro campaign to recognise what happened to 923+ children is ongoing. There needs to be investigation & preservation of the remaining grounds of Bessboro. Those that died need to be honoured #MotherAndBabyHomes
Five years ago this week, the Government, including Presidential candidate Heather Humphreys, voted to seal Mother and Baby Home records for 30 years.
Last week, she said: “It doesn’t matter at this stage”.
It does matter! The pain is still being felt. Justice must be delivered
I have a vision, a park land planted with mixed trees to complement the existing border of trees on the periphery of the grounds surrounding the former Mother & Baby ‘home’ at #Bessboro. A tree for each mother & child that died. 1/8
@breeda_murphy@RTENewsAtOne I doubt that's the main reason. It's largely because many still keep a 'shameful secret' so they won't apply. Many others are rightly insulted by the pittance offered - €5k if in a home for <3 months, €10k for <6 months (= the vast majority). €5k for LOSING YOUR BABY FOR LIFE!
The programme @longlostfamily is not a favourite in the adoptee community. The exploitation of our community for entertainment upsets many of us. We are grateful to the adoptee who submitted this blog, it perfectly articulates how some of us are feeling

My mother was given an unsterilised injection by the nun on the right while in labour. This caused a chain of events leading to my mother becoming seriously ill & baby William born healthy becoming sick & dying at 6weeks old. #Bessboro
1/2 A mother lovingly placed a plaque in the grounds behind the #Folly in #Bessboro, #MotherAndBabyhome site. Had he lived Padraig would be 31 years old today. This is NOT ancient history. This “home” operated until 1998 yet the Religious Sisters cannot say where
How many years did it take? And not a peep about a single other site. Tuam was not the only Mother and Baby Home where large numbers of children died.

We still do not know where 859 babies who died #Bessboro#MotherAndBabyHome are laid to rest.
It only closed 27 years ago. The site must be preserved. Support families @ctcantwell + survivors @Timbre_Breda & activists @danielmloftus seeking answers on Sunday 29th June.
The Bessboro Support Group r organising the Annual Commemoration. 923+children & 31women died. The resting place of the majority is unknown & the grounds are under threat of housing developments where it is likely some r buried. Please help us commemorate them on the 29th of June.

1/2 “One’s identity is not just a crisis that a person undergoes in adolescence but is a lifelong desire that cannot be satisfied by anything else. Growing up with a happy adoptive family or establishing one’s own family are not replacements for an adoptees right
The redress scheme was lazily put together excluding 24,000 that were in the institutions for less than 6 months. Also the redress doesn’t recognise the different levels of trauma & experiences. #Redress#MotherAndBabyHomes#Philomena

The photo in this article is at the monument in the graveyard at #Bessboro. Only nuns graves are marked but 859 children r unaccounted for. Deaths, cruelty, forced adoptions but they blamed Society & not their own part in what went on behind closed doors. Where is their shame?
A man who was adopted at birth is calling for adoptees to have better access to their medical history after he only learned he had a potentially fatal condition once he met his biological father in his 30s. #adoption#adopteevoices#adopteerights

1/8. The figures with regard to the #MotherAndBabyHome#RedressScheme opened in 2024
There are approx 58,000 survivors
- 34,000 qualify
- 24,000 do not
- 6,200 have applied
- 4,000 payments made
- €62 million has been paid from fund of €800m
I said it from the beginning, the Mother and Baby Home redress scheme was designed as a cost saving exercise. And a transparent one at that. Shame on @greenparty_ie@fiannafailparty@FineGael
