Enjoy your ice cream @POTUS. But what about the pot prisoners you promised to free if elected? They are enduring torturous conditions during a historic pandemic! If you can't find the compassion/time to free them now, then when? If you can't cut the fed pop to 50% now, then when?
My son is on year 14 of a 37 year sentence. I have no words to explain what prison has done to him, and me, and his dad, and his sisters, and his brother, and his grandmother, and his daughters. Devastation beyond repair. None of us are better...All of us are bitter.
Long prison sentences don’t reform or rehabilitate, they break the spirit beyond repair, then cast you out into a world you don’t recognize and can’t survive in. If prisons must exist, we must reimagine their purpose
Our criminal justice system isn’t just. It’s not just for crime victims. It’s not just for the criminally accused. And I want to see that change. All of it.
I want us to do better. Because we can do better.

I want people to realize that sending someone to prison means putting them in a situation where they will all too likely be raped. And nobody cares.
*And* I want folks to know what an abysmal job our system does at both solving and preventing crimes.

If members of Congress are just finding out that being prison - and the DC jail, in particular - sucks. Welcome to the club!. You only know about those conditions b/c there was an unannounced inspection of the DC jail. Help us pass independent oversight of all federal prisons!
275+ people have died in federal prison from Covid-19. BOP is failing to use compassionate release as it should. The House Crime Subcommittee opens a hearing on these problems and Rep. Biggs uses his statement to talk about...um...the treatment of the 1/6 defendants.
With 361 House votes and a growing number of Senate Republican cosponsors, it’s clear that anyone who considers themselves even modestly pro-criminal justice reform is going to support the EQUAL Act. It’s time to #EndTheDisparity
@KevinARing@GovernorVA Very well done. I look forward to this next administration @GovYoungkin moving forward in reform starting with second look. When people put in the work to change, they should be acknowledged.
We have heard from so many family members worried about the skyrocketing number of cases of Covid-19 in federal and state prisons. Families aren't hearing from loved ones b/c of lockdowns. Contact your state and fed lawmakers and tell them to take action.

Gov. DeSantis opposes even the most modest of sentencing and prison reforms in a state that has the third highest prison population and the worst mandatory minimums. The prison system is in crisis. Something has to give. https://t.co/FRuVDkyQE1
The EQUAL Act garnered 361 votes in the US House, including nearly 70% of GOPers, specifically, Jim Jordan, Kevin McCarthy, and Louis Gohmert. Conservative criminal justice reformers should ask why this hasn’t been brought up in the Senate yet. This is a no-brainer.
