School & district administrators, instructional coaches, and anyone else involved in professional development at schools: here’s a way to save money, promote student success, and boost teacher morale. A thread:
In recent yrs, @gtadmission has made a conscious decision to not set app deadlines on weekends/ holidays w/students & school counselors in mind. We also release decisions on Friday nights or Saturdays, so not to disrupt school days.
Urging my colleagues nationally to follow suit.
Cover Title change: “Best Colleges for Who?”
Ask high school students the factors they believe make a “Best College” and assign percentage weight….THIS is not what they come up with.
A note about averaging grades when 0s are present:
If a student receives one 0, they must then get 85% on 16 subsequent assignments before their grade will reach a B.
Another example: if a student gets 95% 33 times but has two 0s, they'd only get an A if you round up.

If you work with or know students who are working on their Common App, remember that OSU and IECA created a free video companion to help students navigate it from start to finish.

@sophgermain It’s weird to me how many educators- learning experts who are literally trained in instructional techniques- confuse consequences/punishment with learning.
Thread:
TLDR: Terms like "college ready" and "proficient" are concepts created by test makers and test sellers.
They can be set wherever the companies want them to be.
Thread: This morning, @OregonState and @IECA are announcing the launch of the AXS Companion, a tool to help anyone navigate Common App.
We hope you'll share this widely with any group that works on college access and admission.
@EmpowerCoachMeg “You’re overreacting/too sensitive”, “it’s just part of the job”, “everyone has to do this”. C said someone told her “pay attention” (would have preferred “hey, do you need a quick break?”) and that “you don’t look interested in the topic.” And of course, “stop doodling” 😩
