@DanielWNeill1 Hello! I was wondering if you were able to check the “Questions from Students” discussion forum on the course homepage, as I am having difficulty with a couple of things and cannot access my course email to contact you. Thanks. #POPMUSS21
@antoniojose__ I definitely agree with the fact that it made his music stand out from others of that time, for example Tin Pan Alley. Do you think if it wasn’t as raw, and more polished for example, that Charles still would’ve been as popular? #POPMUSS21
@shannon_lawlor1 I agree! It shows off his technique and range. I also find it makes his voice seem a bit more ‘real’ compared to other artists of that time, much more genuine.
I feel Charles used his breaking voice to show technique, but also to make it sound a bit more real compared to some of the vocals that came out around that time. His voice almost seems more relatable than others, and a bit more genuine.

@pye_aaron I agree with you here. Music is a huge part of my social life personally, and I bond with people who enjoy the same music as I do. With Spotify’s social features, it is also incredibly easy to find people with similar music tastes, which expands my social group. #POPMUSS21
@cassie_perfect Agreed! It is so much easier to access music now, and realistically it is quite a bit cheaper compared to buying CDs, records, etc for every album you want to listen to. This makes it easier for lower income people to listen to music as well #POPMUSS21
#POPMUSS21 New listening technology, has influenced my PI because being able to access music easily and listening to music that truly appeals to me has helped me to open up and come out of my shell. It also helps me to express emotions better.
@NoahRogersMUN I feel the term “dumbed-down” is incredibly critical! Creating any kind of music involves skill, talent and creativity, therefore I think the term “simplified” is a bit less critical. But I agree that music is different to what it used to be in the sense of difficulty. #POPMUSS21
@LilijaLMUN Yes I definitely agree!! The catchiness of pop music is definitely what makes it so popular today, and its easy to remember so you hear it once or twice and you can sing along. It’s simplified so that it is much easier for listeners to understand. #POPMUSS21
I would more so identify pop music as “simplified” rather than calling it “dumbed-down”. Making pop music still requires creativity, skill, talent, etc. Therefore it still takes time and effort. Pop music artists make it catchy and easy for listeners to understand. #POPMUSS21
@NicoleRice98 I also found this super surprising! I found it amazing that raw vegetables could be healthier than cooked, but thinking about it it does make sense! When cooking the vegetables we lose the nutrients we need from them, which could help build our immune system and make it stronger!
Something I learned from watching the Food Matters video for my #HKR1000 class would be how detrimental vitamins are to our diets, if lacked it can cause negative effects on our health. But if intake is high enough, it can help our immune system grow and treat illness.
@sarah_moore13 I agree with you 100%! Having a friendly relationship with friends and family have helped me to reach a better mental state than ever before! I'm so glad that such a high percentage of our class feels as though being friendly matters in relationships and in life! #HKR1000
53.65% of my #HKR1000 class participates in car pools. I personally think this is a low percentage because from what i know most of us can drive and we all go to #MUN so lets make some new friends and try and hep the environment a little bit!
Only 40.95% of my class are a part of groups or clubs. I feel this is a considerably low number considering being a part of a group/club can be extremely healthy for your social well being and help you to grow on a personal level as well! #HKR1000
