I'm afraid I have to disagree with Wald’s statement as I usually love listening to a cover band sing my favourite songs and hear them sing it in their own way. Usually when an artist covers a song, they put their own twist on it and it can #POPMUSS21
@MercerKaely I agree 100%! As schlock rock was a huge part of music’s history, we still cannot forget the racism that occurred during this time. Schlock rock is still credible, though, as it was a very successful form of music during this era. #POPMUSS21
Many artists are guilty of cultural appropriation, including artists from the 50’s and 60’s. Artists considered the music “schlock rock” because it was knock off/easy-listening music that targeted their white audience. As this was a big part of music’s history, I don’t #POPMUSS21
@MattMar69273000 I agree! The use of breaking voice is a very effective technique used in music, as this deeper level of emotion that is shown through a singer voice is something that lyrics simply cannot do. #POPMUSS21
I think Ray Charles used a breaking voice because breaking voice usually shows emotion and expression in a singer’s voice, and can also convey a feeling that lyrics simply cannot. #POPMUSS21
@Gabrielle1473 I agree, @Gabrielle1473! I used to do the same thing with my friends. Having affordable music at the tap of a button is so much easier than going to buy a CD for much more money.
@DarcyL20 Great response! Having music platforms accessible to students is such a wonderful advantage. I also listen to music whenever I get the chance, and usually I’ll be at the gym! Wireless headphones definitely makes listening to music so much easier.
Music is such a huge part of a person’s identity, so streaming services such as @AppleMusic and @Spotify have created a wonderful music platform to easily access music whenever you like. Music is a big part of a person’s identity, and being able to access music #POPMUSS21
@jackbaggs98 I agree! Some pop music that is being put out today are usually songs with a strong beat, but with careless lyrics. For example, if Drake put out a song with a great beat, but was rapping random words, I think it would still become a hit, as it appeals younger generations.
@Gabrielle1473 @CodyStacey4 This is very true! Pop music may be "dumbed-down" with simple beats, but is also very catchy, and easy to remember. This is why pop music artists' songs can become so popular!
catchy, but is also easy for the audience to understand, and remember. So, yes, pop music may be a more "dumbed-down" version of music, but there is a reason why this genre is so popular today. #POPMUSS21
Yes, I agree that popular music has become a more "dumbed down" version of music. Compared to classical music, a need for music knowledge is most times needed to understand the rhythm, arrangement, etc. Artists in the pop music industry create music that is not only #POPMUSS21
If I were stranded on a desert island, the three songs I'd need to survive are:
1) Fearless (Taylor's Version) - Taylor Swift
2) deja vu - Olivia Rodrigo
3) She Used to Be Mine - Sara Bareilles
