@Matt_9Williams@AmmousMD At age 70 I am in excellent health and I am amused by absurd opinions about sunscreen and sunglasses. I will continue using sunscreen, or long sleeves and a broad brimmed hat, if I am spending the day outdoors and will continue using polarized sunglasses, thank you very much.
@25_cycle@AmmousMD He's a "reformed medical doctor", which means quack.
I've used polarized sunglasses since I learned of the harmful effects of the full radiation spectrum while in college back in the '70s, and at 70 my eyes are in excellent shape.
@25_cycle@Steve26964499 Agrivoltaics is a thing and actually improves agriculture, so now the scare tactics are alleged contamination from solar panels and claims of "mountains" of discarded panels.
Nevada came up with over a billion dollars in tax abatement for Tesla to bring their Gigafactory to Reno, and it is the best business deal we ever did. Reno went from 13% unemployment to essentially zero.
TERAFAB: As I reported yesterday, SpaceX purchasing company Wit Tech LLC. has started acquiring 3,135 acres in Grimes County, Texas, for the Terafab semiconductor and advanced computing chip manufacturing plant near Gibbons Creek Reservoir. Officials are holding a public hearing tomorrow, June 3rd, on SpaceX’s proposal.
The county has posted the following two items for the hearing:
- SpaceX Public Hearing Item 1 - Tax Abatement
- SpaceX Public Hearing Item 2 - Reinvestment Zone
The public hearing will be at 9:00 a.m. CST at the Grimes County Commissioner Courtroom, located in the Grimes County Justice & Business Center, 270 FM 149 W., Anderson, Texas.
Upon the close of the public hearing, the Commissioners Court intends to take action on approval of a property tax abatement agreement and whether or not to establish and designate the Reinvestment Zone. Its designation would be "SpaceX Reinvestment Zone No. 1 – 2026-001."
Per County Judge Joe Fauth, "I’d like to put this to bed on Wednesday. SpaceX can then start digging dirt and doing what they need to do to build their operation. Or we just say, you know what? We can’t come to it, and we don’t have an agreement.
This is a big deal. At the end of the day, this is a generational change for Grimes County, if indeed it does go through. In the back of my head, maybe we could limit some of the anxiety of our citizens by not having five, ten, 15 data centers, battery locations, power generations throughout the county. Maybe we could just have one or two majors, and then we could go back to the comfort of, hey, Grimes County is a nice place to live.
We have the semi-final word. We’re going to offer this tax abatement. This is what we’re proposing. And then SpaceX would also have the opportunity to say, 'We’re going to come in, or we’re not coming in.'"
@duke000083@AmmousMD When I was a teenager and into middle age my uniform in the summer was blue jeans and a short sleeve shirt. I did not believe in sunscreen and I have the skin cancer to prove it.
@Olive64htsworms I concur, yet it is standard in the industry. It's what the truck companies do not tell you when they're telling you how much money you're going to make per mile.
@Seattle_RT@danWpriestley@SawyerMerritt CDL here.
PepsiCo is your template. The first few tens of thousands of Tesla Semis will be primarily used for drayage and regional runs, with privately owned Megachargers supported by Megapacks. Line haul will follow. Long haul is a long way off.
@Loggingmedia@niccruzpatane The Tesla Semi battery weighs 10,000 lbs or less. It's arithmetic.
A Model 3 battery is 84 kWh hours and weighs 1,000 lbs. These are known values.
The Tesla Semi battery is 850 kWh and therefore 10 Model 3 batteries.
@Olive64htsworms The Tesla Semi will not help with McNally miles. A trucker is paid by the mile for the straight line distance between point A and poInt B, nevermind that roads to not go in perfectly straight lines.
@JamesMorseMD@SawyerMerritt@Tesla A factory ramps slowly at first. It's not like turnIng on a spigot. There are thousands of parts that have to be in the right place at the right time, and any one missing part means the assembly line stops.
CDL here. Of all the things that Tesla has ever done the Semi fascinates me the most.
The Windrose is the only electric semi I am aware of that can compete directly with the Tesla Semi. Their weak point is charging. They have taken GM's point of view: Windrose will make the trucks and let other people worry about charging. I fear that's not going to work out very well for them.
