It was an action-packed first week of Fall Camp for the Ponte Vedra Sharks. Practice began each morning at 7:15 a.m. and ran through 9:30 a.m., progressing from helmets and shorts early in the week to helmets, shoulder pads, and shorts as camp advanced.
During the week, we also recognized senior defensive back Trey Butts, who was awarded the “Iron Sharpens Iron” T-Shirt. This honor is presented to the player who most consistently exemplifies the three DAWG Pillars—Conduct, Commitment, and Drive—through his daily actions and his commitment to making both himself and his teammates better throughout the spring and summer.
We also recognized all players who earned membership in the 600, 800, and 1,000 Pound Clubs based on their combined one-rep max totals in the squat, bench press, and power clean, which were tested the previous Monday and Tuesday. Players reaching a club for the first time will receive a T-shirt representing the level they achieved. In addition, players who recorded a power clean of 225 pounds or more will also be recognized with a special T-shirt for this outstanding accomplishment.
A special congratulations goes to our three members of the prestigious 1,000 Pound Club: seniors Sean Hassan and Carter Ottesen, who first reached this milestone in March and accomplished it again in July, an exceptional achievement requiring months of discipline and hard work and our newest member, junior Sam Racki.
Saturday provided an opportunity for our senior class to come together at Topgolf for an important leadership session. Each senior presented his personal Legacy Statement through a video slide presentation, sharing how he wants to be remembered by his teammates and coaches ten years from now. One of the most powerful lessons from the boys legacy statements was the understanding that every decision we make either strengthens or weakens our legacy.
Following the video presentation, the seniors enjoyed lunch and spent time together on the golf range continuing to build relationships, strengthen the team’s culture, and reinforce the importance of putting TEAM above self.
We look forward to another productive week as the Sharks transition into full pads and continue preparing with discipline, commitment, and grit for the season kick off classic against St. Augustine.
This week, the coaching staff recognized the February DAWGs of the Month; athletes who have consistently demonstrated and fully embraced the DAWG Pillars of Success. This standard is designed not only to develop better football players, but also stronger teammates, responsible classmates, and leaders within the community.
Each DAWG will wear their DAWG shirt every Monday to help set the tone for the week and serve as a role model for teammates who are working toward earning DAWG status themselves. The ultimate goal is to have as many players as possible earn DAWG status before the start of fall camp.
The following players were recognized: Sam Racki, Nick Walko, Brayden Holmes, Brennon This, Carter Ottesen, Zac Potter, Bennett Zimmer, Ryan McGill, Camden Maddox, and Daniel Dittus.
These athletes set the standard through their discipline, commitment, and grit. Their daily actions—often during the unseen hours—reflect what it truly means to be a DAWG. Keep pushing, stay consistent, and continue raising the bar for yourselves and your teammates.
DAWGs help establish and uphold the team’s standards.
Another one of our 2025 PV Football DAWGs, up coming Senior and a member of the PV weightlifting team, just set a new three-rep PR with a 405 pound squat. He’s now preparing for his one-rep max testing in the squat, clean, and bench press in just one more week.
The DAWG Mindset — continuous improvement; never comfortable with the status quo.
