861 people died as a result of pregnancy in 2020. This number is up 18% compared to 2019.
We cant be forcing carrying pregnancies when we cant even keep people alive during childbirth.
I’m somewhat loath to get so personal but I feel like I need to tell this story. My mother died in December 2020 with what I believed at the time to be $40k in student loan debt.
Not buying Starbucks once per week would save me $240 dollars per year. The pause in student loan interest has saved me 50k dollars of added interest for the past 2 years.
Have to admit I’m becoming more than a little disappointed in colleagues saying “ we have the tools to live with the virus, as defense for the let ‘er rip strategy.
Being a health equity advocate means knowing that YOU have the tools isn’t the same as everyone else having them.
Prior to COVID, my work was on maternal mortality. About 700 birthing people die each year. The federal gov dedicated $100 mill to address this. We have a campaign- chasing zero, with a goal of eliminating maternal death.
When I hear "only 800 kids have died of COVID" or
