What I’m currently solving:
-Spring madness. Waking up at 3am the past 8 days to work
- Better team and customer communication
- Training new employees when I myself feel maxed out.
- Regaining margin and increasing personal income
- Planning a fun family adventure for ‘26
Business update:
- Last year we grew 36% revenue, profit continues to be pinched
- Great people continue to elevate our team, drive our business and make it special ✅
- Promoted a key employee and hired another offshore team member
- Q1 was rough but March has been explosive 💰
Personal update (mostly for myself):
- I’ve been on a social media/ news fast for the past 5 months. Highly recommend . Local community is key
- Currently on my 2nd fast of the year. Gluten and alcohol ☠️
- Tracked my glucose and sleep through Oura & it’s been insightful
Just completed a 2 day fast, my top thoughts:
1. My joint pain diminished by day 1
2. I spend a lot of time and energy thinking of food (what to eat, etc)
3. It’s biblical and I’d like to incorporate more prayer time next go around
4. I need to do this at least 1x month/ quarter
Theft happened for the first time ever in our business over the weekend. $5k-$7k stolen through breaching our lot.
Best news- the Lord is fighting this battle in my behalf. I get to keep my cool and replace tools and know this will be redeemed at some point in the future.
Something my Hispanic crews and I have deeply in common- we take our meals very seriously.
I said “meet you at the jobsite”. And they said “we’re grabbing breakfast first, see you in 20.” And I respect it.
In short, we’re having a solid year, but the unexpected in business (and life) continues to happen. Prioritizing health and choosing to treat people the way we want to be treated remains priority.
So far this week:
- key employee was having chest pains, went immediately to the doctor and spent all day getting tests
-subcontractor who we rely on deeply checked himself into a treatment facility.
- another subcontractor unexpected quit and walked off a job without completing
@NiklausFuller Definitely a big(ger) supplier company with a lot of potential but they are disorganized and from what I’ve observed, struggle with accountability from within. No clear goals or systems and he knows he’d be stepping into a mess.
A key employee was offered $100k more base salary than what I offer and he turned it down because he loved his role and helping us build here.
SCHWEEEW. 😅
How do you know you have the right person in purchasing? In the last week she called a vendor to negotiate his delivery fee (dropped it in half) and called our water supplier to get a .70 CENT decrease in our packaged bottled water and she let out an audible “woooohoooo!” 💦💧
Took my mom and sister into the zoo jobsite this weekend to show them our huge fence project we have underway ($500k project). They couldn’t believe how much work was under way. They thought I was exaggerating 😂
New Inspired Or Acquired podcast with Cassi Niekamp! She’s grown the fencing biz she bought 5x. We discuss what it’s worth today and if she’d sell, buying the real estate, and how stressful it is still some days. She’s a long time friend and powerhouse of a person.
