Hypergamy is a marker of caste hierarchy not endogamy
Here CasteFiles founder, Richa Gautam explains why endogamous marriages in India are a proof that Indian society was not organized hierarchically.
Risley tried very hard to prove hypergamy in India during his 1901 caste survey, but failed miserably.

โThis report shatters several widespread misconceptions about the social composition of students in Indian higher education,โ says Prof. Venkatramanan.โ โContrary to the prevailing narrative, students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) overwhelmingly dominate enrolment and significantly outnumber General Category students.โ
American sociologist Dr. Salvatore Babones, author of the white paper on the weaponization of caste in America, welcomed the AISHE findings:
โThis paper lays out the data on access to higher education by caste category. It should be read by everyone involved in Indiaโs caste reservation debates.โ
Thiyagarajan, one of the authors, echoes this view: โAISHE data reveals that availability of opportunities for SC, ST, OBC students in Higher Education is not an issue anymoreโit is above average. Now the focus should be to ensure that the creamy layer amongst them does not take away the opportunities of those in the lower rung.โ

@Indian_Analyzer Creamy layer exclusion for all sections of society including SC-ST and all OBCs. Only then will we have a more equitable society! Also, can we implement reservation for only 1 or 2 Generations, post 1947?
๐จHUGE. Reserved-quota students now dominate Indian higher education ๐คฏ
โ IIM Udaipur study of 43.8M students shows SC/ST/OBC share jumped from 43.1% (2010โ11) to 60.8% (2022โ23).
In 2023 alone, they outnumbered General Category by 9.5M.
โข GC share fell from 57% to 39% even after adding EWS. Govt institutes now have 62.2% SC/ST/OBC enrolment.
Opportunities clearly exist, time to uplift the marginalised sections now? Expand support to the still marginalised, and enforce a strict creamy-layer? Just like J Gavai said?

New revelations : Enrollment of SC/ ST/ OBC students in Higher Education exceeds the General Category.
An analysis of the data published thru annual All-India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) reports by Department of Education under @EduMinOfIndia reveals a very positive picture on how reservation for SC, ST and OBC categories has worked, dramatically different from widely believed misconception that they suffer from inadequate opportunities.
AISHE data of 13 years has helped identifying the clear trend: The combined share of SC/ST/OBC students in higher education rose from 43.1% in 2010โ11 to 60.8% in 2022โ23. In 2023 alone, SC/ST/OBC enrolment exceeded that of the General Category by 9.5 million students. On the other hand, enrolment of General Category students has fallen from 57% in 2010-11 to about 39% in 2022-23, a clear indication that they are facing a significant competition from SC/ST/OBC students who are competently acquiring general seats on merit.
The research report has been published by CPDM, IIM, Udaipur in which I have contributed as co-author.

SC,ST, OBC representation is higher especially in southern India even 20 years ago, but itโs taken advantage of by wealthy successful repeat reservation/quota users (creamy layer) shutting out poor rural SC,ST,OBC folks leaving them behind. Multi-factor reservation system taking into account wealth, jobs, education level preferring first generation reservation applicants might help the situation a little bit. But there is also the issue of fake caste certificates. so the system as it is implemented now needs complete overhaul.
