@notyetadegen Most purchasers are Singaporean, it's just there's enough BTO lottery winners / DINKs / generational wealth folk upgrading. Interest rates are low, property is seen as "safe" because the BTO system itself intentionally or knowingly chokes housing supply.
@MrLeeArthur The settlements are perfectly legal under the Oslo accords. It is not possible to illegally occupy land over which you have the superior claim.
@bradchattergoon Intl students are much less dependent on the H1-B visa. They usually have OPT and STEM-based OPT extensions, after which they would have materially opened up many other pathways to residency (frequently, marriage).
@bradchattergoon Once employed, a H1B is more dependent on the employer than a resident employee (c.p.) because they cannot stay in the US unless they have a sponsor-employer, and not every employer is willing/able to do that. There's a grace period to find alt employment but only 60 days.
