A quiet week on the moth front in the garden this week,
but this morning produced a couple of migrants, Silver Y and this Hummingbird Hawkmoth! My fifth Hawkmoth of the year in the garden. Just after it's release 30 Whooper Swans flew south overhead. @castlebirder
Decided on a change from Shetland this autumn in favour of the Western Isles. Day 2 here on South Uist with @chrisgbradshaw@castlebirder & @DarraghHudson was quiet until an evening check of a 200+ flock of Golden Plover produced three cracking Buff-breasted Sands. Good start.
An small increase in GBB & almost inevitably a new ringed 1cy GBB Gull seen at Scalby Mills, Scarborough yesterday. Ringed in Norway as a chick on the 9/7/2024
Say hello to the Mendip Farmer’s Hunt’s new Hunt Master, Sam Colburn.
Filmed by @mendiphuntsabs last year shortly after assaulting sabs for which landed him with a criminal record.
Be a shame if you RT and his face went everywhere..
@ChrisGPackham
Starting to visit Scalby Mills more often again. Well rewarded today with a cracking Juvenile Caspian Gull & a 2cy Med Gull amongst the commoner gulls . @nybirdnews
Detectorists is potentially the most beautiful, calming and best quintessentially British comedy of the past decade ❤️

The Bearded Vulture that famously toured Britain during summer 2020 has been seen again in the Swiss Alps, some 1,200 km away from her last known location in East Sussex: https://t.co/xGECkpTqxN
"We're absolutely disgusted to see the EU challenging this sandeel closure. Our seabirds are struggling. We've seen a 62% decline across species, a quarter of puffins lost, our seabirds need these fish to feed their young & survive."https://t.co/La3mnzKAl5 @RSPBNews @RSPBEngland
Nice day out locally with Steve Hey today. After a couple of Ring Ouzels at Stoupe Brow we tried the Emperor Moth pheromone along Helwath Road, Harwood Dale Forest. Quick results.
