Celebrating Character & Leadership at LUES!
Jack Cromeans and Ava Seratt were honored with new bicycles from the Oxford Rotary Club through their Wheels in Motion program. They were selected for demonstrating strong character and leadership both in and out of the classroom.
How many people know that this is history repeating itself at LSU in incredible ways?
Gov. Huey Long built LSU as you know it, the school, the stadium, the FB program & the marching band, which he was obsessed with
Long led the band and watched games from the bench and forced coaches to allow him to give pep talks before games and at the half
Hall of Fame coach Biff Jones resigned after the final game of the 1934 season following a blowout fight w/Long about the team trailing at half time. Long wanted to give a half-time talk & Jones said no. He told Long he was finished when the fourth quarter ended & stuck to it
The LSU band still uses multiple songs Long co-wrote for the program—including Touchdown For LSU, their most famous number that opens the pre-game performance
That’s Huey below using state funds to send LSU fans to Nashville for the Vanderbilt game. He also strong-armed the railroads to lower fares for that game by threatening higher usage taxes on LA’s bridges
