@SheafferDanny@ff_catching Agree w/limiting excessive mvmnt, but the only way to do that is utilizing well timed pre-pitch movement. If the mitt stays inside the zone it either receives pitch where mitt started or moves away from plate. Umps def adapt, but catchers w/ppm have graded out as the best for yrs
RIP Tyler Skaggs. It seems so insignificant, but our thoughts and prayers are certainly with the Skaggs family and the entire @angels organization. I'm at a loss for words. Gone far too soon.
#Catchers, this is why we keep the mask on. You never know when something may swing up to the face or head! The “but I can’t see the throw come in from the outfield if I leave it on” argument is ridiculous. Last I checked, our necks work just fine! Leave it on and look up!
#Catchers, it’s plays like this that show just how fast the gm really is. Narvaez had a shot @ the plate. In a close game that has to be our 1st priority, but it’s an easy mistake when trying to make sure you get at least 1 out. I 👏 Omar for sticking w/his 1st instinct. #catcher
@matthew_kibby@JWonCATCHING It’s tough to say for sure, as I was not at the field with my stopwatch and the video doesn’t give a full-speed view from 2B to see complete ball flight, but it was most likely just under 1.90 seconds.
What a 🚀 from @FranMejia95! The quickest path between 2 pts is a straight line #catchers. Make the throw on a line. The ball will get there faster. The pitcher will move, & if they don’t...let’s just say it’ll be the last time they make that mistake. #catcher#catchingcamp#TSNS
How about #Rays#Catcher@ChrisBetts26 w/ the heads up play! Knowing the rules is 1 thing. Paying attention & using the rules to your advantage is very different. Chris told me he’s been checking if the runner touched the plate every time since he was 15. Looks like it paid off!
If I have one more, “well, that’s not how we do it” conversation in the game of baseball or softball without a coach providing actual data/proof of concept/effectiveness I swear to god...
Terminology changes over time, as does tech & available info. Be objective or get out! Thx.
Lots of progress in #hitting instruction & emphasis on identifying & understanding high-level swings. Terms like swing plane, launch angle & exit velocity are now mainstream. Yet bring up “attack angle” regarding #catchers & all that objectiveness goes right out the window SMH🤦♂️
Not sure this is what they meant by #throwbackthursday 🤦♂️Sometimes, #catchers, we have to just throw our hands up 🤷♂️ and say “whaddya gonna do?” It’s important to recognize when situations are 💯% out of your control & to not try & fix a problem that doesn’t exist. #catcher
Kollin will be a member of TCC forever, & his story is one a lot of #catchers need to hear. Be hyper-vigilant w/your health. If something feels off, tell someone. Kollin was a bright spot on every field he has ever stepped foot on. While his path in life has changed, he has not.
#Catchers fake it ‘til you make it, right?😂 Definitely a funny clip, but we can learn from it too. We preach working underneath the ball, toward the bottom of k-zone. But if the mitt’s 1st movement is ⬆️, it has to go ⬇️ to work back underneath the ⚾️ & that takes more time.
@goodrocatching@tvanderwerken@TylerV_04@dnacatching Not bad Ty! I would create more of an angle starting out of the zone back towards the plate instead of starting middle, then heading down, and then ripping the ball back up. But love to see him working for his pitchers!
