Police actually went to her killer’s home but did not enter it despite him being a registered sex offender with an outstanding record warrant AND police dogs were leading them in the direction of his trailer because they detected her scent. They instead focused on her father assuming he was responsible when he was completely innocent and ignored the outstanding warrant. She was in that man’s trailer in the closet the entire time they were speaking to him. They left and then the next day he buried her alive after raping her.

Had police entered they very likely would have found her and she would be alive today. Her father a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against the department after her body was found. He also got a law passed in her honor that requires sex offenders to be heavily monitored. It’s called the Jessica Lunsford Act.
