Proud to stand with @codyc64 on this. As the Senate author of Texas’ #NIL law, I know firsthand that ALL student athletes deserve real solutions—not half measures THAT LEAVE MANY ATHLETES BEHIND. At the state level, the Texas legislature delivered reforms that protect opportunity and strengthen college athletics.
The kind of division we’re seeing now—from programs that have what they need and want to maintain the status quo—doesn’t send the right signal. It actively works to leave behind student athletes who rightfully deserve a seat at the table.
It only distracts from the real work ahead. We need a reset that prioritizes fairness, preserves opportunity, and delivers lasting solutions. College athletics is one of America’s greatest institutions, and it deserves nothing less than our best efforts to protect and preserve it for generations to come. Anything less compromises the integrity of college athletics—and the dreams of young Texans who hope to be part of it.
