2/ His payments for X creators have put money in my pocket.
Out of all of this, the thing I like the most is that he's enabled people to freely discuss what's going on in the world.
So on balance, I approve of him.
If you object to his wealth, at least explain why properly.
1/ OK, my thoughts on Musk.
He makes a lot of over-optimistic projections.
He's also made some nice cars and improved the state of space travel and internet connectivity.
He's struck a powerful blow for freedom of speech.
I don't really like his animal experiments.
I don't get why people hate Musk for owning $1 trillion in assets.
Do they think he's got $1 trillion in his bank account that he refuses to do anything useful with?
Is it jealousy?
It's really baffling.
@Heccles94 If you tax his wealth at 50%, surely he'd have to sell half of his shares, which would tank his companies and put control of them in the hands of other rich people?
And in the end, the US government would quickly waste most of it.
@DiamondSpiderP Whenever anyone does express it, it doesn't seem to make much sense. Best explanation I've heard of the rage is that people think he has too much power, which I can understand. But I notice they're not so angry about Xi Jinping.
@TDisposition It's very noticeable that many of the people who agree with you are very insulting. That makes me think maybe there's no coherent argument; only rage and stupidity.
@TDisposition@QuinnAllwein I think both of those people would likely be an improvement, so you're basically correct. I bitterly resent the loss of freedom of speech in the UK, which was a free country in the quite recent past.
@NickKnudsenUS People who take this point of view need to explain it though. I'm open to it, but many of the arguments I see are just founded on misunderstanding.
A lot of people, in replying to my question asking why they're angry about Musk and his wealth, choose to be insulting.
This makes me think these are simply angry people.
I would like to hear from smart, calm people who are bothered by Musk's wealth.
