@kdeeringmun I agree Keegan. Many artists today do not have to be good singers, they just rely on auto-tune. This is acceptable when listening to recordings, but not during live shows #W23POPMUS
@k_vavMUN I definitely agree! A great live show is a full experience, not just listening to the song. Many artists do not even sound the same when performing live due to the heavy auto-tune used today #W23POPMUS
I agree with Wald as recorded music is popular today. Many people do not have access to live shows performed by their favorite bands, so they listen to recorded versions. Many live shows are recorded and released so people can have the experience of live music at home #W23POPMUS
@HollyCschool I agree Holly. Many artists produce meaningful covers that can introduce a new vibe to a song while crediting the original artists. Without understanding and respecting the original artist, white musicians practiced cultural theft #W23POPMUS
@LaheyRenee I agree Renee. Singers who are less talented and have no cultural connection to the songs were gaining recognition while the original artists may never be discovered. #W23POPMUS
"Schlock" music is cultural theft. Original music created by African Americans was covered and advertised to a white, teen audience to generate revenue. This music shouldn't be valued without giving credit to the original artist(s). #W23POPMUS
@ryleemusic2011 I certainly agree Rylee! Many listeners relate songs to their own lives, and being able to hear a story and feel the emotions tied in with it allows us able to connect the song to our own! #W23POPMUS
@cmaj709 I agree Colin! This type of music uses no autotune and lets us hear the emotion-provoking, raw vocals that we do not hear a lot of today. #W23POPMUS
I think Ray Charles uses a breaking voice to incorporate passion and emotion into his songs. We can hear how he is singing so strongly that it creates a "break", allowing us to feel the emotions Charles is trying to relay. #W23POPMUS
@BrookeSlous I 100% agree. I also think that old listening devices are coming back in style and showing high social status, such as record players. Many people nowadays have large record collections with hard-to-find records that show higher status over others. #W23POPMUS
@Ana_Rose_Walkey I agree Ana. I think this "public" listening also allows people to discover new music recommended by friends without having to search too hard. #W23POPMUS
Wireless earphones or headphones have become a symbol of wealth in society. Many new devices are designed with no way to use corded listening devices, so you must spend more money on a new phone and earphones to listen to music. I use these to listen to music as well. #W23POPMUS
@BoonPetersen I agree with your point on autotune. Any average person with no musical talent or a good voice can become a #1 chart topper today. I think this is fit for a passive audience since they do not care about the real talent when they are listening. #W23POPMUS
@jenna_hanrahan I agree Jenna! The song Love The Way You Lie by Eminem ft. Rihanna has the lyric "If she ever tries to f*cking leave again I'm a tie her to the bed and set this house on fire". Many people, myself included, sing along to this song without realizing how toxic it is! #W23POPMUS
#W23POPMUS A false need created by popular music is that people should be partying, drinking, and doing drugs whenever they can in order to show status. This unhealthy message is commonly promoted in rap songs and appeals to a passive audience who wants to live like celebrities.
