@FreeStatePete@credenzaclear2 "easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" "in this world you will have trouble". Most? of the apostles were killed for their faith; many had no children. So I'd disagree that "wealth, children, and stability" are a given
@Rameshchess@CholaChess Very good post; I was never a good chess player, but the biggest things that I got out of Chess/other sports were not trophies but life skills. learning how to learn, think, solve problems, deal with losses etc. For the 99% of players these are more important and must be taught
Lots of good stuff on the Corporate "Indie Rock & Alternative" Radio. Sam Fender, Lord Huron, The Revivalists, Goose, Beck, and Buffalo Traffic Jam all have great new singles, and even Zach Bryan and Noah Khan's new music is pretty respectable. Rock ain't dead yet!
@pmtiegs 10k is too much; you can probably get a better car for 5k. If you can get it down to 5k; potentially, I believe the transmission issues were mostly fixed in those vans by then. I would also want it inspected; have they kept up with maintenance?
@FoundationDads think. I don't know if there's any secular (or even Christian show) outside of maybe Fred Rodgers that has "perfect" morality. You have to take both the limitations and the truth within the show (even if the show does not understand itself).
@FoundationDads I think you're taking it too seriously. He's a fine character (would be a fine person in real life), but I wouldn't take him as a role model. His limitations (re: his marriage) are there, so whether the show explicitly acknowledges it or not I think there's more depth than you...
@Vitus_osst (Christian, not Catholic) How they dress (in this example) is utterly, entirely, between them and God. Do I personally dress "acceptably" for church? Yes. Do I think it's a sin to dress as they did in Church? Unless God has laid it on their heart, no. Should we care? No!
This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory.
Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies.
(Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)
@BanjoAtheist as more important, and I'd say the way America manifests liberalism is evil. Many atheists are arrogant, and many Christians too. I do not believe I act out of evil all the time, but I have done many things in my life that have harmed myself and others. So yea, we are sinful!
@BanjoAtheist Even if you think that the macro-evil of the world is driven by only a select fear (which doesn't make sense when you see the populace driven by fear and arrogance), we individuals are very flawed. America especially has an obsession with the self and implicitly deems itself....
