On federal lands: We generally think of Utah as a blocky polygon. But It's really just the few white areas in the map below. The rest is not the state of Utah but rather territory owned by the federal government. You can travel across Utah and never actually be in the state of Utah. Utah should be owned and operated by Utahns, not the feds.

I cannot emphasize enough that with 70% of our state controlled by the federal government, everyday life in Utah is affected by decisions made in Washington. Building roads, moving cattle, and cleaning up campgrounds all require navigating a behemothic bureaucracy that’s stacked up against the average Utahn. The people of Utah know best how to manage the land they have lived on for generations and I will continue my work with our state leaders to figure out solutions to our federally managed lands.

This is not what it seems. If you care about public land, the worst thing to happen would be transferring ownership to the state. State land boards are required to make state lands profitable, which puts all of that land at risk for public use long-term.
