America has always had fringe elements. But I never thought I'd see a day when so many embraced disinformation with zeal, some of it transparently false, some of it ludicrously false.
It doesn't matter whether they believe it, or just say they do, they still made a needy emotional commitment to it and got addicted to the dopamine secretions from "owning" the other side. It's easier to feel than to think.
The thing almost none of the fringe recognize, that isn't talked about enough, is that the root of their embrace of disinformation is not substance, and not difference, and not even hate ... it's fear. Fear of inadequacy, fear of losing an entitlement or an identity, fear of the highly educated, fear of anything Trump is afraid of, which leads to fear of losing, and of expertise.
Look at their latest asinine false narrative against Fauci, of all people. Boogey Man theory. I defy anyone to claim that this isn't the stupidest modern timeline ever.
