[#COP28] For #NatureDay, @ocean_climate, @hlcchampions, @oceanpanel & @COP28_UAE convened the Ocean High Level Event: “Powering #OceanBreakthroughs with 100% Sustainable #Ocean Management”

The 1st panel gathered representatives of countries members of the @oceanpanel. They detailed their efforts to develop Sustainable Ocean Plans and achieve the Ocean Breakthroughs 👇
👉Norway🇳🇴& Mexico🇲🇽 are working towards the sustainable management of their waters, in line with the Ocean Panel’s target of 100% of the ocean sustainably managed by 2025
👉@rickspinradnoaa @NOAA details some of the U.S.’s🇺🇸 Ocean Climate Action Plan goals: (1) Create a carbon neutral future by working with IMO countries to achieve zero emissions for shipping by 2050 (2) Accelerate the solutions from coastal ecosystems for carbon sequestration & adaptation (3) Enhance community resilience
👉Mark Lambrides presented @OAS_official recent commitments including the endorsement of the Nassau Declaration for #SustainableDevelopment to protect the ocean and sustainable water management.
👉@CBarzuna @WRIClimate announced the launch of the assistance fund "Ocean Action 2030" which focuses on helping countries in developing & implementing comprehensive Sustainable Ocean Plans. Sustainable plans must be participatory, transparent, and focused on actionable steps towards a sustainable ocean future.

💰@karen_sack @orraanews announced that the Deutsche Bank became the first bank to join #BackBlue: a Blue Finance Commitment which ensures that a sustainable and regenerating ocean has a seat at the table in finance and insurance decisions.
🪸@SCMGardner @UNEnvironment announced the commitment of 200 millions dollars from the Global Fund for Coral Reefs, as part of the launch of the #CoralBreakthrough
🚢Advocating for a shipping sector 100% decarbonised by 2050, Mr Nikolaus H. Schües @laeisz also pointed towards biodiversity goals by announcing the launch of the 2030 Shipping Pact as part of the #ShippingBreakthrough, to avoid further biodiversity loss.

In NYC last week at launch of the Ocean Panel’s report “The Ocean as a Solution to Climate Change”. The report concludes that full implementation of Ocean-based climate solutions, now ready for action, could reduce the “emissions gap” by up to 35% on a 1.5 degrees pathway in 2050
