The answer is terminal secularism finally cashing out—resulting in a worldview that corrodes human nature, empties human purpose, and erodes the very meaning of human freedom.
There’s been thoughtful conversation lately concerning “third-wayism” in Christian political theology.
The chart below lays out some categories that might help clarify what a healthy versus unhealthy expression of “third-wayism” looks like.
Talk about divine providence. Walked in to teach a class in the @SBTSBookstore on the subject of the common good, subsidiarity, and sphere sovereignty in my public theology class and the Kentucky Attorney General, Russell Coleman (@kyoag), was on campus visiting. Pretty relevant to then get to teach on the role of law in securing the common good. A great Christian statesman!
Pastor Theologians. That’s what we both produce and appoint to faculty at @SBTS. Grateful to kick off the academic year talking about humble excellence in church ministry.
A friendly reminder to myself and my friends in Christian ministry. Guarded cultivation of a public identity is at cross purposes with our apostolic example.
1 Cor 4:1
This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
It is very fascinating to me that many argue that the natural law is neither compelling nor self-evident. Then why do secular ads like this stir the soul? Why do figures like Bernie Sanders go on Joe Rogan and talk about the dignity of work? Because God has inscribed moral goods and moral awareness on our hearts that, even in a state of rebellion and rejection, these moral goods burst through ideologies, lies, and obstinance to surface with resounding clarity. These moral goods are signposts to God.

It’s been a packed semester of events in the Bookstore at Southern—and we’ve loved every minute of it.
From book signings to faculty panels, each event has been a chance to hear directly from the professors who shape our classrooms and write the books we’re reading. There’s nothing like getting to study with the authors—ask questions, listen in, and be part of the conversation.
Thanks to our faculty and students for making the Bookstore a place of learning, fellowship, and campus community.

I don’t post here much, but these sermon notes by my 7 year old warrant one! Completely unprompted, Ayden quietly jotted down these notes as we celebrated our risen Savior. I am a very proud dad, but even more grateful to my Father in heaven for drawing this boy to himself.
"Are you living an examined life?" 🔍📖
In Thursday's chapel, @DrJimHamilton preached from Ecclesiastes 2:1–11 and invited us to do what Solomon did: slow down, reflect, and assess what is truly good and lasting.
This is an amazing time, an amazing place, and God has placed incredible potential and opportunity before you.
As William Carey once said:
“Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”
Let Solomon’s search stir your imagination—and let your life be marked by gospel ambition and eternal purpose.
