Addressing the gathering during the 56th Foundation Day celebrations of The Cotton Corporation of India Ltd. (CCI), Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh reaffirmed the Government's unwavering commitment to the welfare and prosperity of cotton farmers and the holistic transformation of India's cotton sector. He emphasised that enhancing cotton productivity is the next frontier of India's cotton growth story and a key driver for strengthening the country's textile value chain.
On the occasion, the Hon'ble Minister lauded CCI for its effective implementation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement operations and various farmer-centric initiatives that have empowered cotton growers through transparent, efficient and technology-enabled procurement mechanisms. He appreciated CCI's sustained efforts in ensuring remunerative prices to farmers, timely payments and improved accessibility through digital interventions.
Shri Giriraj Singh further observed that the adoption of scientific, technology-driven and climate-resilient cultivation practices has demonstrated significant potential to enhance cotton productivity, improve fibre quality and increase farmers' incomes. Referring to the successful implementation of the High Density Planting System (HDPS) model in Akola district under the Special Project, he expressed confidence that replication of such best practices across Maharashtra and other cotton-growing States, complemented by the recently approved Cotton Productivity Mission – Kapas Kanti, would accelerate the development of a more productive, sustainable and globally competitive cotton ecosystem, ensuring better value realisation and long-term prosperity for cotton farmers.
A significant highlight of the 56th Foundation Day celebrations of The Cotton Corporation of India Ltd. (CCI) was the exchange of three strategic MoUs in the presence of the Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh; Hon'ble Ministers from the Government of Maharashtra—Shri Sanjay Shirsat, Shri Sanjay Savkare and Shri Atul Save; Ms. Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Ministry of Textiles; Smt. Vrunda Manohar Desai, Textile Commissioner; Shri Lalit Kumar Gupta, CMD, CCI; senior officials of the Central and State Governments; farmer representatives; and stakeholders from across the cotton value chain. These MoUs will strengthen capacity building in seed cotton processing, promote sustainability, traceability and market access under Kasturi Cotton Bharat, and advance climate-smart cotton cultivation through carbon credit initiatives, leading to better price realization and enhanced income opportunities for farmers, improved quality and competitiveness of Indian cotton, and a stronger, more sustainable and globally competitive textile value chain.
Marking the 56th Foundation Day celebrations of The Cotton Corporation of India Ltd. (CCI), Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, distributed modern farm equipment, including Kapas Plucker Machines, Cotton Stalk Shredder Machines and Contamination Control Kits, to cotton farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). The initiative aims to promote scientific and sustainable cotton cultivation, enhance fibre quality, reduce contamination at the farm level and improve productivity, thereby enabling better value realisation for farmers while strengthening the quality and competitiveness of Indian cotton.
CCI's 56th Foundation Day was celebrated at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, in the august presence of Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh; Hon'ble Ministers of Maharashtra Shri Sanjay Shirsat, Shri Sanjay Savkare and Shri Atul Save. The programme was also graced by Smt Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles; Smt Vrunda Desai, Textile Commissioner; Shri Lalit Kumar Gupta, CMD, CCI; and senior officials of the Central and State Governments. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the shared commitment to empowering cotton farmers, promoting sustainable cotton cultivation and strengthening India's cotton and textile value chain.
In the august presence of Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, Shri Lalit Kumar Gupta, CMD, CCI, welcomed the gathering at CCI's 56th Foundation Day and highlighted the Corporation's 56-year legacy of safeguarding cotton farmers' interests through transparent, technology-driven and farmer-centric initiatives. Reaffirming CCI's commitment to Viksit Bharat @2047, he emphasized empowering cotton growers, ensuring remunerative prices, promoting quality and contamination-controlled cotton, and building a sustainable, globally competitive and future-ready cotton ecosystem.
In the august presence of Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, Ms. Padmini Singla, IAS, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Ministry of Textiles, outlined the transformative vision of the Cotton Productivity Mission – Kapas Kanti (₹5,659 crore) at CCI's 56th Foundation Day. She highlighted the Mission's focus on enhancing productivity, quality, traceability, sustainability and value addition, while advancing the vision of 'Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Fabric and Fabric to Fashion' to position Indian cotton as the world's preferred sustainable fibre.
A landmark moment at CCI's 56th Foundation Day was the launch of the 'Kapas Darshan' Bulletin by Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, in the presence of Hon'ble Ministers from the Government of Maharashtra, Ms. Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Smt Vrunda Desai, Textile Commissioner, Shri Lalit Kumar Gupta, CMD, CCI, and other dignitaries. The Bulletin will empower cotton farmers with timely advisories on weather, markets, scientific cultivation, quality management and Government schemes, enabling informed decisions and improved productivity.

Farmers were sensitized on modern technologies, mechanization, Pink Bollworm management, Trash & Contamination Control and the Cotton Productivity Mission – Kapas Kanti to enhance productivity, quality and farmers' income.

Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary (T), inaugurated the 'Weaves of India' Festival at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE), Janpath, New Delhi today. Senior officials of the Ministry of Textiles were also present on the occasion.
The festival showcases 116 heritage handloom weaves from across India and will remain open to visitors from 24 July to 7 August 2026, celebrating the country's rich handloom heritage ahead of the 12th National Handloom Day.
