Christ Church Inner West: an Anglican Church in Ashfield (St John’s & Mathetes🇰🇷), Five Dock (St Alban’s), Haberfield (St Oswald’s), & Drummoyne (St Bede's).
Today we remember Spenser Maxted, rector of St Oswald’s Haberfield in 1914 when the First World War broke out. Serving as a stretcher bearer at Gallipoli, and later an AIF chaplain on the Western Front, Maxted was killed in action at Fromelles in 1916.
Lest we forget. #ANZACDay
Sovereign Lord and Loving Heavenly Father, We grieve the loss of life through acts of violence in our city. Please comfort all those who grieve or have been impacted. We thank you for police, ambulance and emergency personnel who were first responders.

Happy birthday to C.S. Lewis, author of classics like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Though only 4 little Londoners got to visit Narnia, libraries can also take us to fantastical worlds, so no wonder they are Australia's most visited cultural venue! 📚🦁🧙♀️
To ask ‘Why?’ holds God at arms’ length.
To ask ‘How long, O Lord?’ holds on to God, even in the depths.
Our sermon series on Suffering begun last weekend. Join us for more this Sunday, or catch up later this week on our podcast.
HOW LONG O LORD?
The cry that rises up out of the universal human experience of suffering, from deep within us, is ‘WHY?’
But I want to suggest to you that there’s a better question to ask; a question made possible by the Christian gospel:
‘HOW LONG, O LORD’
Do you know where Jesus is right now?
Jesus has ascended to heaven, and is seated at God’s right hand.
And that’s great news: with Jesus seated at God’s right hand, we will never be turned away when we cry out to him.

“The forgiveness that Jesus gives is always accompanied by the power to replace sin with something else.”
On Sunday we celebrated how God gives us two life changing gifts: forgiveness and his Holy Spirit.
‘Hospitality means giving a loving welcome to people who are not in your circle of friends.’
.
This next month we’re encouraging a season of heightened hospitality.

As the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler, some of us might need that reminder to reach out…
On this #NationalSorryDay we lament with survivors and those grieving the decades long practice of removing children from their mothers and families. "A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling." Ps68v5 #StolenGenerations#SorryDay2023#NRW2023
