2. The title is very fitting. The woods are mysterious, each character gains unique knowledge & grows personally after choosing to go into the woods.

@TaylorH79205875 I agree with Lauren's thought. Lula is portrayed as beautiful & fun, when she really has many negative characteristics too. She is very racist and offensive, and even murders a man with no repercussions. This symbolizes white people in the US who simply ignore the racism present.

@TaylorH79205875 Clay is not "one of those hopeless colored names." Lula also tells him he is "too pretentious to be a Jackson or a Johnson." This makes him seem more white, Lula even says that he never thought of himself as black. Baraka uses this as a symbol of him holding part of himself back.

@Lindsey58046253 - Lula is racist, ignorant, and selfish. She makes fun of how Clay dresses/acts & doesn't care to understand why. She has no remorse at the end w/ the stabbing.

2. Morrison gave her this name to show that she could break stereotypes- she's not the meaning of a name she didn't pick.

2. No, I do not think that Desdemona could reconcile with Othello as she disobeyed her own parents just to be with him, yet he did not respect her nor trust her word.

@AnnaRunnfeldt 1. Othello grew up to be a member of the military, so it was helpful to his career to be violent. I assumed he developed this behavior as a result of his surroundings.
2. This quote demonstrates the societal standards at the time. Women were meant to be homemakers, nothing else.

@CharlieMollahan -I think he is like Washington & has similar beliefs as he was his aide, but he's also very unique w/ his constant writing & flow of ideas
-Burr is very to himself with his opinions and doesn't share his internal thoughts much, but by the end he says he will do anything to win

2) It's a big city where influential politicians met, allowing him to share his thoughts directly and learn from people like Burr.
