The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 748 points today, a two-day drop of 1,200 points. The S&P 500 sank 1.7%; Nasdaq 2.2% lower. Fears over imposition of tariffs and increasing consumer prices. That’s only one month of misguided Presidential policies.
When Mike Lawler thinks the cameras are off, he says what he really feels. While campaigning for Donald Trump and JD Vance recently, Lawler said that Democrats “hate America.” I am appalled that Lawler has such contempt for the hundreds of thousands of Democrats in the 17th District. He also said that Trump, who tried to overturn the 2020 election and pledged to pardon the insurrectionists who attacked law enforcement officers, “loves this country.” The Lower Hudson Valley deserves better.
Mike Lawler, an oil and gas lobbyist-turned-Congressman by 1,820 votes, has voted repeatedly for federal cuts that undermine our clean water and air and make it harder to keep water bills low. Thank you to the electeds and activists for joining me in Croton to demand better.
Mike Lawler doesn’t want #NY17 to know about Project 2025, so I thought I’d spell it out. If extreme Republicans win in November, every fundamental right you and I have would be threatened. That’s why we must defeat Mike Lawler and Donald Trump.
On November 15, about 60 residents of Congressional District 17 rallied to call attention to the discrepancies between Congressman Mike Lawler’s moderate rhetoric and his very conservative voting record. Look closely when he claims he is moderate and bipartisan. photo: Teri Lukin
In response to @GovKathyHochul's projected budget deficit & the recommendation to cut services, Rosemary Rivera, Executive Director of @citizenactionny –– a steering committee organization of the IONY –– released the following statement:

The integrity of Congress is at stake. It weakens each day George Santos remains in office, lying and being #unrepresentative of #NY03. Why did @RepMikeLawler choose to keep him in Congress instead of expelling him? #NY17
@RepMikeLawler said George Santos should resign but then voted to keep him in Congress instead of expelling him. He talks the talk, but won’t walk the walk. That’s not the kind of representative we need for #NY17.
@RepMikeLawler voted to rob our schools, veterans, access to healthcare, food assistance programs, and more. NY17 doesn't want a rubber stamp for MAGA McCarthy. Outrageous.
Wise words from a Lawler constituent: No one seriously believes that $131 billion can be cut from non-defense discretionary spending without deep cuts in veterans benefits. By pledging to do this, Rep. Lawler is wrecking his own credibility. Veterans deserve better.
NEW #NY17 poll from @HouseForward:
- @RepMikeLawler's approval rating is underwater (32-35)
- 61% support raising taxes only on those making more than $400k
- 56% support a bill that would avoid a default on our debt
- 64% disagree with Lawler's vote to cut veterans benefits
@RepMikeLawler Really? While the bill you voted for does not specifically cut the budget of the Department of Veterans Affairs, it does mandate broad federal spending cuts and does not exempt the VA from those cuts. The cuts would surely include taking the ax to veterans services.
New Yorkers overwhelmingly support making the ultra-rich pay a little more in taxes–NOT raising CUNY & SUNY tuition or increasing subway fares–so we can #InvestInOurNY. Tell NY's legislators to prioritize our communities, not billionaires, in the budget! https://t.co/mpD4usdXqA
