@SrtaMagana I would take my students on virtual field trips for Social Studies. Everywhere from the Taj Mahal and the Pyramids to the Great Coral Reef and the International Space Center. They could actively experience things they may never actually get to see. #wuedt6020
@stacy_mcmullen One of the roadblocks has been holding students’ attention during face to face instruction time. They’re totally engaged during online activities, but lose focus back in the traditional classroom setting. Balancing the two components is a challenge. #wuedt6020
@melinda65477521 I try to make sure I’m comfortable with the tool before introducing it, then model it for students and go through each step together. But it often seem like once students have time to explore an app they tend to find things I don’t even know about! #wuedt6020
@SarahQJ Thanks, this is great! Getting all these recommendations from everyone is a little overwhelming. But it’s really helpful to learn what's working for others. #wuedt6020
@cricket311311 Kids really do seem to respond to games, and Kahoot is one of their favorites. I’ll have to try the free Gamecraft trial. Thanks for the suggestion! #wuedt6020
@tellish001 Seasaw is an app that I keep hearing about. It sounds like a great tool to organize and store all types of student work in one place. I will definitely check that one out. Thanks for the other suggestions too! #wuedt6020
@DMMteacher I’ve used Edmodo to communicate with parents and it sounds very similar to Class Dojo. Parents want to know what is going so it’s important to have a good classroom management system. Thanks for sharing! #wuedt6020
@oneteachertwo This course is my first experience with Schoology, but I can definitely see its potential. I love using Google Classroom for collaboration and communication and it’s so easy for the kids to use. I don’t know much about Flipgrid or Nearpod. How are you using them? #wuetd6020
@Me_Lissa85 I only had a free trial so my experience is limited. But kids love connecting with students outside of their own school and this would be perfect for it. #wuedt6020
@k_alexander213 I only tried the 30 day trial too, so didn’t get to use it very much. But it’s definitely something the kids enjoy and an easy way for them to connect with students from all over the world. #wuedt6020
@HaroldlScottiii Skype is a great way to connect face to face with other classes and interact socially. Students can experience different cultures without leaving the classroom. Also, a great alternative to field trips and guest speakers. #wuedt6020
@DMMteacher Have you heard of Mystery Skype? Students skype with another class somewhere else in the world (set up by the teachers) and try to guess their location. Haven’t tried it, but sounds like fun! #wuedt6020
A social media tool students can use to connect locally and globally is Kidblog. They can connect to peers inside and outside of their class and share ideas, ask questions and learn more about students from all over the globe. #wuedt6020
@DMMteacher Games and VR are both great ways to get kids excited about learning. Students are more motivated and focused when they are doing something they enjoy and they don’t even realize they are learning.
